Most likely scenario: squealing was either a belt or a bearing. Failure to run is probably a broken belt. Gain access to the back of the drier, with the power disconnected. Open the back and check the belt. If broken, replace it, and then rotate the drier by hand, listening for additional squeals and squeaks. If no other issues are noted, replace the back cover, plug it back in and try it out.
