My washer starts to fill when starting a cycle but stops filling after 10 seconds. Husband went to do a load of laundry and came back and the clothes were still dry.

My Maytag Neptune is one of the original models, about 20 yrs old.

SOURCE: brand new kenmore HE2 front load washer - keeps filling

Either your pressure switch is bad, or the air line that connects to the presuure switch has come loose. The pressure switch is located on the right-hand side rear of the washer with the top cover removed. It is a brown colored, disk shaped, device with an electrical connection and an air hose connection. Sometimes this hose comes loose in shipping, or the electrical connection may be loose. Without it, the washer will continue to fill and will NOT shut off. Now...if you just purchased this unit, DO NOT do anything that will void the manufacturer's warranty. It may be an inconvenience, but I would recommend you get the appliance repairman to come in and take a look at it. That way...you won't be held liable if something were to break. This is, however, usually a simple problem and not considered major. I hope this reassures you some. Post back with comments if you have any further questions/concerns.

SOURCE: Washer keeps filling w/ water, only stops when changed to spin

Your drain line is too low.
OR the drain line is restricting air where it enters the drain stand pipe.
Remove the drain line and hold it up high.
Turn the washer on to fill. It should fill then stop.
This example should explain what you must do to correct the drain line problem.

SOURCE: Washer starts agitation during water fill up and

I also have a Whirlpool top load Model # WtW57ESVW auto sensing load washer. I have it it almost a year and it has started to do exactly the same as described above. The repairman said today that it needed a "auto load sensing switch" which he has ordered for me.

Note - you can use your washer until the problem is fixed, but you have to make sure you manually stop the spin cycle prior to it just finishing, for that is the time period that the water starts to fill again.

I also noted that my local Lowes store does NOT sell this model anymore - probably too many customer complaints about this exact same problem. As soon as I showed the problem to the repairman this AM, he immediately diagnosed the issue - said that it was a recurring issue with this particular model.

My Kenmore front load washer will not fill--it sounds like it is draining instead. The last load washed did not spin correctly and the clothes were very wet when cycle completed.

Washer Not Filling:

  • Door Not Closed and Locked
    • Front load washers won't fill if the door is not closed and locked. Listen for the door locking when starting a cycle, then pull on the door to make sure the door is closed and locked.
  • Delayed Start Feature
    • Some washers have a delay prior to filling, where the electronic control is checking the dispenser function. This is Normal.
  • Flashing Lights or Error Code on Display
    • When there is a filling issue, the washer may shut off and display one of the following codes: LF, LE, nF, IE, FH, E10 or F20.
    • If the washer is displaying one of the above error codes, then do the hard reset procedure listed below.

If the appliance is not accepting input from the control panel, follow the steps below to reset the control:

  1. Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds.
  2. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet or turn the breaker back on and wait 30 seconds.
  3. Press the Pause / Cancel / Stop button twice to clear the display.
  4. Start a short cycle, to check operation of the appliance, by selecting a cycle and pressing and holding the start button until the appliance starts.

The water pipes have been freezing up for the past two nights, got them thawed out, and started a load of laundry set on cold. Washer started normal, it made a small click noise as allways, and the water...

Have you taken the hose off of the back of the washer and checked to see if you are getting water to that point. Also check the inlet screen on the fill valve to see if it is clean.. You may need to replace the fill valve. There may be a screen in the inlet of the hose at the shut off valves.....So check both ends of the washer hose..... I would check the hoses first before I would replace the fill valve....Hope this helps

The rinse cycle does not work, but everything else does

I don't know if the problem is solved but last night we ran the washer without any clothes in it and everything seemed to work fine. My wife was able to run a load of laundry and it seemed to work. I hope it was just too much clothes the first time it stopped or the washer was just acting up. Either way, I had nothing to do with the fix. Sorry I couldn't be any more help. Thank you for the link to assistance plan, it might come in handy in the future.

Thanks again,

Fisher Paykel will not drain

I had the same problem. After cut the power off for at least 60 seconds and then back on, as the manual suggests, the problem remained. Therefore I started putting the clothes out and bailing the water out. Once the water was down about half way the pump started working. I suspect the sensor was "stuck". I cycled the washer without clothes and it worked fine. Still working after several loads of laundry. The water level sensor will probably need replacing sometime soon.
