Hi

Check there is no dust or dirt that is stopping the lens mechanism retracting the lens properly (which is then interfering with the cover closing). You should also try and check if the cover is aligned properly. If it has been dropped or knocked it can sometimes move them out of position and this can then stop them closing properly.

We hope this helps to get the camera working properly once more.

SOURCE: Lens Retraction

Since your camera should be still under warranty, best thing will be to conntact to the appropriate factory service center for correction of the problem. Good luck!

You may have the same problem that i had. It does involve taking the camera apart. Not overly difficult - just fiddly.

SOURCE: lens will not retract

In my case, there was dust in the switches that sense the cover movement.

  1. Close the sliding door and wait until the lens is drown inside (timeout).
  2. Open the screws that secure the front cover.
  3. Remove the sliding door covering the lens. There is no trick (hidden screws etc) so just use the force. The door is mounted by two-sided tape and adhesive.
  4. Remove the front cover. This is also mounted by two-sided tape / adhesive in the center, so you have to be a bit brave.
  5. The sliding door rails and the movement sensors are now visible. Clean all dirt.
  6. Try the door functionality.
  7. Mount the front cover after the lens works as it should. Close the screws.
  8. Mount the sliding door.

My olympus mju ii the cover does not go across cleanly and it seems this is causing problems when the lens retracts suggestions?

It sounds like the issue you are experiencing with your Olympus MJU II camera is related to the cover not closing properly. This can cause problems with the lens retracting, which can lead to damage to the camera. Here are a few suggestions to fix the problem:
  1. Clean the cover and camera body: Dust and debris can accumulate on the cover and camera body, making it difficult for the cover to close properly. Use a soft brush or microfiber cloth to gently clean the cover and camera body.
  2. Check the cover's alignment: Make sure that the cover is properly aligned with the camera body. If it is off-center, it may not close properly.
  3. Check the cover's hinge: If the cover's hinge is bent or damaged, it may not close properly. Inspect the hinge and see if it needs to be adjusted or replaced.
  4. Check the lens mechanism: Make sure that the lens mechanism is clean and free of debris. Dust and debris can accumulate on the lens mechanism, causing it to malfunction.
  5. Have a professional take a look: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be best to take the camera to a professional for repair. They will be able to diagnose and fix the issue, or tell you if a repair is needed.
It's important to keep in mind that the Olympus MJU II is a film camera, and it's not manufactured anymore, so it's harder to find replacement parts. It's recommendable to have a professional check the camera before using it, to prevent further damage.

Mju 300 lens barrel will not retract

check the batteries! all features will not work on drained batteries. If the problem is in the hardware, then think about getting a new camera.

My Lens will only close half way.

Hi Natalie:
Lens stuck, is common defective that need new lens unit replacement or just repairable.

Causes of a Lens Error: There are a number of ways with which a lens error can be caused. Particulates might have managed to get into the mechanical bits that allow the lens to retract, a purely physical interference with the lens mechanism. If the camera was dropped, especially while the lens was extended, there's a pretty good chance something might have been knocked loose, such as the guide pins upon which the lens withdraws and retracts.

How to Repair a Lens Error: As scary as a lens error might seem, there are some easy fixes. Before trying any of them out, however, first take a good long look at your camera warranty and maybe have a chat with the company. If the lens error will be covered under the terms of the warranty, go for it. Even some of the simple fixes mentioned below might void the camera warranty. Frankly, however, it's unlikely that a lens error will qualify for the warranty.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

I have a olympus 400 mju camera i cannot seem to get the lens back in to close the cover now i have fitted a new battery

This normally happens when dirt or dust particles get caught between the lens segments. Check for this. If you can't do it yourself, take it to the nearest authorized service center.

Lens cover only opens half-way

If the lens barrel isn't fully extending on power up, that will prevent the lens cover shutters from springing open. There is a stationary prong that pushes the cover closed when the barrel is retracted.

Does the camera work otherwise? Take pictures thru the half open lens?

S45 sliding cover fault

When you start to close the lens cover, a pin pushes against a spring to trigger the lens retraction sequence. You can easily take off the front cover to investigate this, and possibly adjust the angle of the spring to make it less sensitive. Just be careful not to yank out the ribbon that connects it all together.

Ian, It's not a solution I'm afraid, but I have the exact same problem as you had. What's worse, I followed the exact same methodology as you did and now my camera doesn't work either. Unlike you though, I own it, so have nobody to answer to. Wondering how you got on with yours? Did you find a fix, or take it to a repair shop in the end? Sean
