Ok everyone, I have solved this problem untill somebody else in the world kindly hosts an original driver! Only two websites on the internet publicly host an original EPSON WN4301AEP driver, They are the first two results in a google search. Both CAN'T be accessed with registration and webmasters don't answer emails - useless! How frustrating!

So the only other option is to use a MODIFIED SMC2835W driver (you know, the one that was MEANT to work and didnt for you?), forcing windows XP to accept the driver and install it making your Epson WN4301aep wireless card fully functional.

Heres what you need to do:

With your LAN card in the the computer; first of all try to install the SMC2835W driver from driverguide.com and see if Windows XP will accept it. Most likely it wont but a minority find it works OK. The reason why it doesnt work is not because its the wrong driver, its because of two short strings of text in the .INF file are preventing XP using this driver. The text in question is the 'Hardware ID' if the Hardware ID is different in the driver to what it is on the device, XP will not allow you to install the driver for it.

You need to match the Hardware ID of your particular card in the driver INF file which is easy to do. First of all make sure your epson lan card is plugged in, then open Device Manager in XP, find the Unknown Device in 'Network Adapters', double click on it, click on 'Details' tab. In the dropdown box select 'Hardware IDs' You will see a list of them. On any one ID there will be a string like this 'PCI\VEN_1260&DEV_3890&SUBSYS_' with a unique hardware code after this e.g 'A83510B8', (Yours may be different) this bit you are going to enter into a text file for reference in a minute. Next, go to the SMC driver folder and open the .inf file, it should open in Notepad by default if it doesnt, open the file in notepad. In the .inf file scroll down to where you see '[DeviceList]' in this section you will see that PCI string again ('PCI\VEN_1260&DEV_3890&SUBSYS_') with a code after the SUBSYS bit. Refer to your txt file you typed in a code of your card and copy it, go back to the inf driver file and delete a code off the end of a 'PCI\VEN_1260&DEV_3890&SUBSYS_' string and paste yours in place. Then scroll down untill you find [*something*_DCB1.reg] in here you will find the same PCI string again, do the same thing, delete the code off the end and paste yours. SAVE THE FILE AND YOUR DONE.

Now try to install driver again ;) You will finally see that green light shine!

The exact link to get the drivers for the SMC2835W driver is:

http://www.nodevice.com/driver/SMC2835W/get47014.html

It took me at least an hour to find a place that i could get it from where the link wasnt broken, downloads driver detective instead or didnt require a reg that costs.

Attached below are the links to the drivers that you will need in order to install your wireless device

The manufacturer of your wireless device has become a join venture with PACE, which makes it very hard to find the drivers..

Wireless internet problem

Hi

I think your Operating System (OS) software installed after formatting does not have drivers for the wireless network card.

You did not provide any clues about the OS and the Network (Model/Brand) installed.

Dell Inspiron 6000 did ship with Windows XP as the Default OS and Dell Wireless 1350, 1370, 1450,1390, 1490, and 1500 series Mini Card or Intel PRO Wireless 2200BG, 2915ABG Wireless LAN Mini Cards as options

First, check the Original System Configuration to find out the built specification of the Inspiron 6000.
Enter you system tag. Click on the Original System Configuration Tab. Check the factory built specification and note the Wireless Card installed from the factory. If you have not changed or upgraded the Wireless Card, download and install the drivers from the list below.

Dell Wireless 1350, 1370, 1450,1390, 1490, and 1500 series Mini Card Drivers
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG / 2915ABG Wireless LAN Mini Card Drivers

I am almost sure you will need drivers for the Chipset, onboard network and video.
Intel Mobile Chipset
Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller Driver v.4.25
Video (as above check the factory spec if you ordered the ATI MobilityRadeon X300)
Intel Graphics Video (onboard) Driver v.6.14.10.4609
ATI MobilityRadeon X300 Driver v.8.162-050803a2-025823C

Let me know how you get on.

Mike
