Plug in the washer and it starts humming even if the door is open or its off

Some GE front load washers go directly into a pump out mode after any power failure (or if plug is pulled). This is to keep it from possibly over filling during a cycle restart.

Ge washer will only spin with no load

Your washer has a 2 speed clutchless motor. If it spins with no load I would first look at the belt. You can remove the front of your washer by inserting a putty knife about 4" on the right and left top of the front panel and push in. This should release the front panel so you can see what is going on. If the belt is worn replace.

I have a 2 year old GE WCVH6260HWW front loading washing machine. Last night I smelled burning and there was actuall smoke in the room. I just shut it down. To me it smelled like a rubber (belt) type...

Pull the back panel off and look at he drive belt. My pully nut loosened up and caused extreme vibration (more than usual). The pulley is aluminum and it rounded out the center hole of the pulley. The belt finally came off. I replaced the pulley and belt.

GE front load washer will not complete the rinse & spin cycle

1) 1st check the filter under the machine (it unscrews behind the access panel 2) open front door and pull back the rubber membrane to see metal and clean out the debris blocking drain holes 3) remove the drain hose from the machine (spring clip) and try and run water thru it and keep blowing out the junk and re-attach 4) run the machine thru 2 cleaning cycles w/bleach and without bleach 5) start using less detergent

Washing machine won't turn back and forth

Most likely your drive belt has slipped off. Open up the back of teh washer and see if the drive belt has slipped off and ease it back on with a screwdriver.

Changing the belt on a GE front loading washer

Hello , i can try to help , I have always got these belts on by starting the belt on the small pulley/motor , then rolling it on the large pulley , kinda like putting a bike chain on. Let me know if you have any other questions and how it turns out.

I have a different suggestion based on my washer's similar problem. If the black stuff is powdery and localized at the back of the unit, more than likely the culprit is the drum pulley itself is warped, causing the belt to chafe against the drum. The black powder is rubber residue from the scraping of belt on plastic. No need to replace unit. New belt and new pulley run about $70 each.
