NO PC stated at all, 22 years OF PCs 1000s of models.
we can't guess PC, ok, and AGE matters.
charging problem but no problem told.
what does affected mean( smoke, burned chips, caps exploded)>?
step one is new battery.
that large battery life can be as low as only 1 year if abused,(ask for proof)
or read why at the battery makers web site, (facts)
the charger is a chip inside the PC on the mobo, need photo ask.?
the AC power pack creates 19 DC power to run the laptop with no big battery or with battery the charging chip goes active.
the first step on all PCs that act up is remove the silly old,
if the battery goes bad and shorts, the charging chip many overload the PC, so we remove the big battery first. the one that snaps off the bottom of your unstated PC,
does the PC run ok, now, yes, then buy a new battery,
or run on AC forever... (as many do (millions really)
not everyone uses a Laptop for mobility. ok.?
if still fails. see this,
is the PC dead, no statement all all if PC runs ok. at all.
if PC dead, run with out battery first (large one)
if PC is over 7 years old a coin cell RTC battery is due.
step 1: here, (ordered list)

see here why laptop means near zero.
see this?
vast models. made.https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/su...
my guess, is you have a bad battery.
like 99% do posting here, that think they last 20 years, and never do.
it's ok, we know they don't.

The 2 most common issues are: the battery, and the charger. There is usually an indicator that it is charging, often a little green LED. Look in the manual to see what the procedure is for troubleshooting. This is one of the difficult ones, because you'll need another charger to check, and laptop chargers usually run at over 15 volts, which is higher than most chargers, which usually run at 9 volts or less. If it's the battery, that's much more difficult to tell, as it might be internally shorted. If the sysytem is over 4 years old, I'd suspect the battery. See if you can find a local repair shop that can do a quick check. I have no idea what you mean by 'affected your motherboard'. If the motherboard is damaged, it is likely that the cheapest route is to just buy a new laptop, as the board is expensive, and it will require a couple of hours to replace.
