Most newer receivers have a dedicated subwoofer output with line voltage. If yours doesn't, you will need a subwoofer with a proper internal crossover, or it could potentially blow its input circuit. Subwoofers are normally powered internally, and need low level input to work properly. You should never hook up a subwoofer to regular speaker outputs, unless they are designed to take the signal, and then separate the signal to subwoofer frequency output.

I have the same setup. Are you going out of the subwoofer output of the reciever? (it's purple.) then into the LFE jack of the subwoofer (also purple.) That's the only connection you need besides power. If you have those right, try using your cable for something else to make sure the cable is good. Is the indicator of the subwoofer green? Mine comes on with the reciever. Good luck!
