Why won't my DeWalt DC618K air nailer fire?

It has not been used in a while. Powers up with battery. Push in on the contact trip/pad and the light comes on and battery runs, but the trigger does not pull. Light doesn't flash and no oil has been used. It has not been taken apart. It just seems like the trigger mechanism isn't working.

I would certainly take apart the top and oil where needed. If your sure the battery is operating and there isn't the pop after there could be a trigger issue. But if you look at almost every operation manual they all state regular oiling is required. With out visually inspecting it's hard to say but in my experience it's very uncommon for a part to just break without use. I own about 7 different nailers and I always break down and oil first thing. If you do break down the gun wipe and oil and the trigger is still frozen then I would call dewalt for some trouble shooting or at least look for the manual and trouble shoot from there.

Without inspecting tool, it would be hard to definitely tell what part, I would call Dewalt, they will be glad to help you. You do not want to throw parts at it.

Testimonial: "Thanks. I tried calling and was told it was probably an electrical part....upwards of $200. Wiring solenoid directly to power, it actuates so I'm assuming the control module and not sure how to test that. Looks like $157 online for new control module."

I did the same. This one is practically brand new. Ughh!! Do I drop the $150 and chance that's the part or the $300 and purchase another one. Decisions...Decisions....Decisions!!!

I know exactly how you feel, I've been the situation. Is your tool less than 3 years old? Check your instructions and see if you have a 3 year warrant from Dewalt. When battery tools hit 18 volts I bought craftsman 18 volt drill, I tossed it since a battery cost more than I paid for tool, never regretted it. I have yellow power tools and I like them

SOURCE: Change oil light

I had an Olds that that happened to.  Had many friends tell me to do this and to do that.  What I should have done was bring it to be serviced.  I didn't and the motor froze up.  Its in the junk yard now.
Go straight to the serviceman.  Do not drive it.  Have the oil pump checked.
Hope you fare better than I did.

Notes ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM

HOW TO RESET THE ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM
The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where you change your oil prior to a "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message being turned on, reset the system.

  1. With the ignition key in "RUN" but the engine off, repeatedly push the trip/reset button until "OIL" is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
  2. Once "OIL" is displayed, push and hold the trip/reset button for five seconds. The number will disappear and be replaced by 100 (indicating 100% oil life remaining).
  3. Turn the key to "OFF". If the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
If this does not work you may have a problem with your instrument cluster.

OK, if you have a misfire at a high rate of speed and it is intermittent, I wouldn't worry about it unless it makes the engine lose power or affects gas mileage.

If you want the engine to work perfectly, however, I would find out which cylinder is missing, and correct the problem by replacing coil packs or what not until it doesn't do this anymore.

Also, a bad O2 sensor can cause a 'random' mix that may come and go over time.

SOURCE: Craftsman 18 gauge braid nailer wont fire. Just hear and feel air escaping near trigger mechanism.

18 gauge nailer. Not cars! Anyway check inside the housing bad either replace or disassemble the mechanism (trigger valve) clean everything better to replace and grease it liberally before reinstalling. The o rings tend to roll or flip causing binding ( leaking) sometimes you can take off the back housing where the air goes in and look in the back to see if its sealing correctly. I played with mine for 2 hours. Before I called a service guy at Thomas industrial supply got there number off the web. They helped me a ton for free got somebody right away. Nice folks. Very knowledgeable. Got me up and running am smarter for the whole experience.

Dewalt DC616 nailer is not firing regularly

If your Dewalt DC616 nailer is not firing regularly and giving the 4 flashes indicating a potential jam, there are a few possible causes for the issue:
  1. Low battery power: Ensure that the battery is fully charged. A low battery can result in inconsistent firing. If the battery is older or has been used extensively, it may no longer hold a full charge and may need to be replaced.
  2. Jammed nails or debris: Even if it doesn't appear visibly jammed, there could be a small piece of debris or a partially jammed nail causing the issue. Remove the battery and inspect the magazine area and the firing mechanism for any obstructions. Use compressed air or a thin tool to carefully clear any debris or jams.
  3. Worn or damaged parts: Over time, the internal components of the nailer can wear out or become damaged. This can affect the firing mechanism and cause irregular operation. Check for any signs of wear or damage on the driver blade, feed pawls, or other critical parts. If you notice any issues, it may be necessary to replace these parts or have the nailer serviced by a professional.
  4. Lubrication: While you mentioned that you have not used oil on the nailer, it's worth considering applying a small amount of pneumatic tool oil to the moving parts as recommended by the manufacturer. Proper lubrication can help ensure smooth operation and reduce friction that may contribute to the issue.
  5. Contact Dewalt customer support: If the issue persists after performing the above steps, it's recommended to contact Dewalt customer support or take the nailer to an authorized Dewalt service center. They can provide further guidance and assistance, as well as diagnose any underlying issues that may require professional repair.
Remember to always follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions when working with power tools.

May as well order the replacement trigger valve while there. These two items will renew your gun. Good luck

Brand new unit. Used last weekend, no problem. Today, won't shoot nail. Air is released when trigger pulled, but no nail plunged.

Orings /other parts tend to stick when nailer is new. Dewalt uses some vinyl orings that have been causing premature failure. Be sure to add a few drops of oil when used. Too much oil is not good. Wrong oil will cause orings to swell and cause problems such as yours. Your nailer's firing valve can be reset by rapping the nailer against rubber surface such as a thick rugger mat or coiled rubber air hose. Remove airline and nails, being carefull not to damage the head, rap had against rubber mat and retest gun. If it did not reset rap against nose of gun and test. If no joy, you will most likely need to remove head and manually move cylinder up/down and /or check vinyl orings for failure. Before you try to reset the gun, make sure that the safety is pushing the firing pin all the way in. Air removed, look under the trigger as you push down on safey, if it does go all the way in try bump-firing the gun (for test have nails removed). Hold in trigger and quicky /firmly strike gun against rubber pad. Good luck
