SOURCE: Mitsubishi vs 5051 rear projection tv sound but no picture

No video but good audio Mitsubishi VS5051. Check R509 and R 519, 100 ohm resistors located on the main PCB near the flyback transformer. Also bad connections on any of the yokes and the vertical output IC will cause the same problem.

SOURCE: No picture 27" Akai LCD

if you can solder, you can fix this television. open the back there is one visible board with three bulging caps on it. the other board under the aluminum screen is usually fine leave it alone for now. On the board withe the bulging caps (three in a row 16v1000mf) you will need to remove the problematic caps. Use a desoldering iron or if you are very brave you can use a dremel (not advisable as you would have to remove the solder from the joint and then remove the caps with pliers). You can get 24v1000mf caps at radio shack for next to nothing jsut solder them in and rplace the board in the unit. viola if it doesn't work then you need to replace the MLT168a/b board you were jsut working on with a MLT169c from megmeet.com Replacing the caps did it for me though

SOURCE: Denon AVR-3802 Front Left and Centre channel not working right

I work at an authorized Denon service center and have repaired lots of Denon receivers including this model. So bare with me, and trust that I really do know what I am talking about.

The first thing you need to do is find out if those two speakers may be at fault. You can do it very easy by disconnecting them and connect two of the known good speakers into the channels that the bad sound is coming from and then connect the suspected bad speakers in where those good speakers were connected to.

If the same speakers still sound bad, you know that you have a couple of bad speakers. I think that it is likely that the speakers are OK, but it is a good idea to make sure.

If the sound from the suspected bad channels is now still bad with the two good speakers, you have an internal amplifier problem or you have a problem on the digital board.

For your sake, I hope it is the amplifier that is giving you this problem, if it is, that can be fixed by a good audio technician.

If the problem is the digital board, you may be in for some real headaches. Not that many audio techs are very good at troubleshooting a digital board, its not their fault, it is just a very difficult job.

In either case, it will need to be looked at by a qualified technician.

I hesitate to tell you this, but the problem sounds like a digital board problem. In some rare cases, a technician with excellent soldering skills can reflow a couple if the memory IC's on the digital board and restore proper operation. If the technician is top notch and isolates the problem to a specific IC on the digital board, they can replace that IC and you are good to go.
But in most cases, the technician will not even bother trying to troubleshoot the digital board because it can take hours of troubleshooting, and just order the board if it is available. Most of them are available from Denon, but they are very expensive. Normally the part alone is $200 to $300 and I have seen many times where it takes months to get it.

You can also send it directly to Denon's factory service center and that will get your unit back much quicker. They have direct access to the boards, where-as the authorized service center must order it thru one of the Denon parts distributors and they do not always have them in stock. so you end up waiting for a long time.

If you need to send it to the Denon factory service, let me know and I will email you a return authorization form, this must be faxed or emialed to Denon with the proper information and then they will fax or email it back to you with the RA number which must be written on the outside of the box before shipping it to them.

I hope that this information wasn't to overwhelming, but if you found it helpful a good rating would really be appreciated. It helps to keep the experts on FixYa motivated and willing to answer the questions people have even it the answer is not very good news.
I received an "inappropriate" rating from somebody who just wasn't happy with the truth, and most people never even bother to rate our answers. But that's another whole subject.

let me know if you need more help.

SOURCE: Bryston 4b amp, left channel blows the back panel

I would check out whatever drives the left channel first. If it is a transistor, you can put a ohm meter on the terminals and see if it shows a short (amp turned off). If there are two transistors for the left channel, and you find a short on one only, replace the other to be on the safe side.

Well my 5500 amp has evidently stoppe functioning.

What I would do is look around inside and see if anything is burnt or broken, pay close attention to the heat sink area.
With neither channel working you have something that's common to both channels that is causing the trouble.
You should be able to see any fuse by looking inside, they might be covered up, but should be easy to get to.

Scattered black lines appear then screen gos black, but still have good volume

Hello 4fiddy,

You have actually diagnosed your own problem, Let me explain; the line "I can slap the left side of the tv and picture will almost always come back on" This indicate some form of poor connection (cold solder joint). If you have a soldering iron, solder (circuit type not pipe type), and a multimeter. Use the soldering iron and solder to redo the cold solder joints , and then test it (the connection) with the multimeter.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Can't change channels

I had exactly the same problem. I finally found the power button on the underside of the TV. It is well hidden and to find it, you need to run your fingers underneath the panel. Turn it off for a minute or so and turn it back on and then turn on the switch on the panel on the upper right side where the channel and volume buttons are. It works.

Had the same problem. Digging through the manual I came across a paragraph (at the top of page 24 - DTV Features) saying "if you have selected DTV then it will only display the DTV menu. (I didn't actually select DTV - we can't even get DTV in our area, but the ASP programduring startup appears to have set it!
You have to press the Volume +/- buttons on the remote, then the Input button and it will bring up the input menu. There you can select a different input. Once I did this, I found it had both my TV channels tuned and my satellite channel!
Now my problem is I can't control on/off or volume with the Sky controller - which is why I'm trawling the forums!!
