Turns out it was the Manual-off-Auto switch that was bad. My DVM showed a voltage drop across the switch. The controller wasn't getting enough power.
One good thing about it was it forced me to really study the schematics to understand how everything worked. I'm now in the process of designing my own esp32 based controller, with wifi connectivity, to replace the stock control board.
Hello, I would check the valve clearance. If the valve clearance is too small, the valves can expand in length as the engine comes up to running temperature and lose compression in the cylinder until the engine cools back down and the process starts all over again
The running on choke is caused by a fuel restriction. Check the fuel flow from the tank to the carburetor.Change the fuel filter if it has one. If its good, then the restriction is in the carburetor. The generator is shutting down due to the low rpm coming from the engine. A carburetor rebuild may need to be done.
How soon after starting does it shut down? The hour meter is fed directly from the AC output off the generator stator, if there is no AC output the meter will not run. Assuming it shutdowns quickly, check 1st the oil level and make sure the low oil sender unit is ok, wire #24 to ground. If that is bad it will shut down. Check to see if you have 240V on L1 and L2 on the breaker for the brief time it does start, that will confirm stator/rotor has an output, then your problem moves from the generator portion to either the oil sender, or control board.
Is there a fault?? All UL listed generators including Kohler are required to lockout on a fault on shut down. This really sounds like a problem with your 2-wire auto start connection between your automatic transfer switch and genset. RDT model automatic transfer switch it is the 2 middle wires on the green connector and terminals 3&4 in the generator. close to run and open to shut down. Any open at any time will cause the unit to shut down. The 12 will shut down instantly upon an open because your 5 minute cool down is built into the transfer switch.
The monitoring system of our Kohler propane generator has sent a "UU" message. What does this mean as it causes the generator to shut down 10 seconds after starting? Also how can this be corrected?
