We have a Kohler gen set M#300R0771,spec#116304A5-28,the generator starts but does not come up to speed,my question is what is causing this?We also need manuals for this machine.Decision Maker 2 cont.

The parts manual is a tp-5317 which I do not have . You said its a dec2? or a fast response 2? What is the part number off the main circuit board in the control box?

I have a Ford LGT with a 14 hp Kohler K321AS engine. Go to Kohler.com and download the service manual for the K321 engine. The manual covers all of the K type engines and gives diagrams and details of all the different types of ignition and electrical systems. It is free. JS

call koler but ui think is meant high heat as in the thermal circut is shuting you down or low oil
could be a couple of things best bet call kohler

First thing is to check oil level as low oil pressure will shut it down.

Why doesn't it start?

gen sets have to be run at set rpms so that the voltage and cycles are correct for the applications
with the rpms as little as 100 rpms below requirement , the voltage will be down , causing a brown out which burns out electric motors and if the rpms are low the required cycles will also be off which affects electronic equipment
service the gen set and find out why the rpms are not at the set level

How do you seperate a kohler motor from generator on a miller welder?

if by asking this im assuming the generator is face bolted to motor , if this is so , to save from having another front bearing , the gen stator is directed attached to motor shaft , on the far end under end bell cover is the end of shaft , a long bolt goes thru gen shaft to screw into motor shaft , MARK/photograph all the wires you unhook helps a lot when puting back together

I have a Kohler 12.5 KW marine generator on my houseboat that has a problem I was hoping you could help me with. Specs: Kohler 12.5 KW 79 CID 23HP Mfg date 9-10-96 Gen Engine Serial # 06919 L-29-R

there are some magnets behind the flywheel to cause the battery charging system to recharge the batt. sometimes they come unbonded/loose from the flywheel and cause the engine to become hard to turn. I would start there first.

Did you check the remote terminals and relay in the ATS, disconnect gen remote wires, kill the ATS brealer and ohm across the start terminals, they should close, if not a relay/control board issue, if they do fault is in wiring or gen control, or incorrect wiring

I have a Kohler Confidant 5, model 5ckm21 generator in my RV, serial # 326827, spec# 101228. It worked fine one evening and the next day it wouldnt stay started unless the start button stays depresse

no 14vac coming from generator to control board.--cause can be regulator board on end of generator---dirty brushes or worn out brushes==b1 and b2 winding open that outputs the 14vac--my problem was blown regulator board

Its shutting down on over crank, which is a safety to protect the starter.

Kohler Model 12RES LP gas generator starts normally but immediately shuts down with over-voltage alarm. Control panel replaced.

Sounds like a short in one of the windings to me. Can you verify that the engine rpm is not exceeding specs? If you can modify the engine speed Id say slow it down and see what the voltage read is.
