SOURCE: 1964 5 1/2 hp evinrude kills at high speed

You should have a High Speed carb adjust and a Low Speed carb adjust. If it's running fine while idling, adjust the high speed setting. If you have two nobs, its the lower one. May be set wrong. If you don't have two nobs, remove the carburator and check the jets to make sure they are completely clean or better yet, order yourself a carb rebuild kit to take care of all of this. I just rebuilt my 1971 evinrude 4hp and the carb kit made the world of difference.

I have. A 1996 60 HP evinrude stalled out,put new plugs in it,no fire from plugs....and also what is the proper position of the fuel (red tab)

No fire to plugs. Replace the coil? Been a long time since I worked on these. I believe that they are set up like lawn mowers. They have a magneto to fire the coil. They can get rusty and not let the coil fire. Just something to check.

Evinrude outboards

Johnson and Evinrude carbureted 2-stroke outboards since 1964 require a 50:1 fuel to oil mixture (2%) on engines without an automatic oiling system - 6 gallons of gas to 1 pint of outboard oil.

Why does my 1991 60 hp Evinrude outboard alarm sound and motor sputter occasionally?

when the alarm goes off is the engine getting hot, try running it in gear under load while tied up and with the engine cover off see how hot it gets and if the water i circulating all the time , might have cooling problem !
