Hello lynn.
this pC is F1
key power on, hammer F1 see bios screen now.
this must work or PC is dead
then click startup tab.
then see 14 boot devices there.
HDD0 must be there or the HDD 0 is dead.
the HDD0: wd12345at , the wd name is makers name of drive if the info after : colon is missing that Is a dead HDD.
This cool x220 shows 14 devices even if not present, and is so cool as tells you it support 14 devices. and if you add a USB memory stick that boots it shows the name of said stick after the : colon mark.
nice PC>
OP what we do if HDD0:(missing)
we put ear to side of hDD casing(hatch off)
then listen for it starting up spin sound
as you turn it on,(button)
if HDD is silent, HDD is DEAD.
if ssd?, (don't bother , no motors in pure SSD)

SOURCE: Lenovo ThinkPad X61 got "thermal sensing error" when it boot up
OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Check your adapter for lose connection. Try to wiggle the connection between your ac adapter and your computer. You can also check your computer's port for any sign of defects.
I hope this helps!
