Battery charging

Only the Li-Ion batteries designed to work with the radio can be charged inside the radio. If you have Li-Ion rechargeable batteries such as those you can buy along side the
Alkalines in a store, the answer is no. This type would need to be charged in the style of charger made for recharging this brand/type of battery

Extending the battery life?

Hi,

You have a Motorola CP-680, so that's the Make/Model of the radio.

You haven't informed me as to the type of battery you have powering the set. Is it a battery pack?, is it battery cells and if so what type of cells....AA or AAA? or whether it's a rechargeable type, i.e,. Nicad, Lithium, NMh, this info is required so we can quickly provide the answer, Having said all that, I'll do something I don't like doing, and take a guess....

Because it's a GP series radio, It may in fact be a battery pack, therefore it will either be NiCad or Li-ion. That being the case, you must have a battery charger that came with your radio. If you have a NiCad battery Pack, that is the culprit, as these batteries retain memory between each charge, and unless you completely drain all power from them, before recharging, you will not be getting a fully charged battery, as these will only top up the charge from the previous charge, if you follow my drift.

Better to buy Li-ion battery pack specific to your radio, as these don't have a memory issue, these are available on ebay for a reasonable price.

I hope you've understood my explanation, and that my advice has been useful.

Regards,
Peter

Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse, I replaced the li-ion battery with a NiMh AAA battery pack, soldered in the board that was on the old battery and used it for a week before the battery pack needed...

Li-Ion battery and NiMh battery have completely different charging requirements! Li-Ion battery has much stricter charging requirement and the regulator is normally design to trickle charge at 0.1 Current rating @ 4.2V and then completely shut down.
WARNING: if you use a Ni-Mh charger on a Li-Ion battery, then it will erupt and even explode and catch fire!
Bottom line is that the rescued Li-ion regulator is not designed for your Ni-Mh pack and you will never get a full charge with it and you will need a completely different regulator board: you are better off putting in a suitably sized Li-Ion battery with inbuilt regulator but with higher current rating if possible.
Hope it helps! Let me know how you go.

Motorola FV200R Talkabout dosent turn on

Yes, it is likely you need new battery packs. The Li-Ion batteries have a 12-18 month life expectancy. They will sometimes go longer if the radios are charged and depleted at least once a month. This style battery should be available from your local Motorola dealer on online at Motorola. http://www.store.motorola.com/mot/en/US/adirect/motorola?cmd=catDisplayStyle&catKey=601560
