Are you sure they are taking away people, or are people on your friends list just removing the game from their game list?

If they remove the game from their list, chances are the variable cuts that individual off thus lowering people count.

The best solution will be to email facebook support and ask them to email the account (assuming you still have access to your old email accounts). Otherwise you will need to prove that it is your account. Whatever you do you will need to message facebook support.
