Dog chewed cord
Posted by jnunez918 on Jun 20, 2008
My dog chewed through the power cord (luckily unplugged). Are there replacement parts available and I can't seem to find out to detach the cord from the unit.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are replacement parts available for the replacement of the power cord and to check your owner’s manual to see the schematics of the replacement of the cord. You can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or you can call cust serv @ Bissell @ the phone # listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

You can cut the bad section of wire out of the cord, cut the insulation on the cord to get to the wires. Match your colors, strip the insulation from the individual wires and twist together. Wrap each wire with electrical tape (making sure no wire is exposed, can be a fire hazard), then wrap the cord with electrical tape. The cord will be a little shorter, but should work fine.

You should be able to replace the plug, just follow the instructions on the replacement plug to insure you wire the proper polarity. Otherwise, you could create a potential for a shock. Not a good thing with a wet mop.
SOURCE: Dog chewed on the power cord, how do I replace it?
I would try to find a repair shop to replace it as bissell does not currently offer replacement power cords (atleast not on their website) if your power cord is only chewed in one place you could always just splice it back together and use some electrical tape. sorry I couldn't be of more help.

This is the second cat-chewed-a-wire question tonight.
The only thing to do is to replace the entire cord. You could cut out the chewed section and splice it with **** connectors and electrical tape, but you have a nice iron with a 12' cord. I believe Rowenta uses Torx screws on their irons.
Rowenta has customer support and a list of service centers online:
If you are in the U.S., go to:
http://www.rowentausa.com
and then click on the 'CUSTOMER SERVICE' link on the gray bar below center of the page.
In the 'After Sales Services' column, click on 'Service Centres' and look for one close to you. Perhaps you can order a new cord and use the old cord as a chew-toy decoy.
Good luck from Detroit, MI.
