look for uninstall programs
look for show system updates
then uninstall last update
Then you can try again
with a re update of windows if you are game

disassemble the laptop, and get try taking out the bios battery(not the laptop battery, the BIOS battery, looks like a watch battery.). Leave it out for a few hours, and while you're at it try this. Look around (carefully) inside the case for some jumper switches near a bios chip or the battery. If you do, and if there are more then 2, don't touch them yet. After 2 hours have passed, put the battery back in, reassemble, and try turning on.

Rebootthe laptop whilst connected to the projector, with the projector power on. This works 99% of the time. You may need to manually enable your external VGA output. Cycle through available options by locating the "Fn" key, in the bottom left of the keyboard and pressing the key in the top row which has a monitor icon (or words such as LCD/crt) in the same colour.
Hold the Fn key down and pressthe top row key. Wait for 5 seconds and see what happens. Then try it again. You should find that the local screen goes blank and the external one is activated. Keep pressing til you get both screens on.

how do you login
and do you have Microsoft cloud access.
by update you mean windows 7 or higher,
automatic updates fail, and internet works ok? (nor are you updating the would OS to new?, upgrades or installs?)
my guess is LIVE died.
you have live account at ms dot com.
