SOURCE: my calculator has a funny format

Try pushing and releasing [f], then [4]. This will give you 4 decimal places. (It follows that if you want 5 decimal places, push 5 instead of 4, etc). If that doesn't work, you can try taking the batteries out and putting them back in which should reset it to 2 decimal places, then set it where you want it following the above.

If it continues to malfunction I suggest taking the batteries out for 24 hours to allow a static discharge. This will lose anything you stored in the calculator, setting it back to how it came from the factory.

The actual distance d varies directly as the distance s on a map. If 2 cm on a certain map represents 15 km find the actual distance represented by a distance of 70 cm on the map.

70 cm is 35 times larger than 2 cm so it represents a distance 35 times larger than 15 km, or 525 km.

Sorry I can't give you the exact keystroke sequence to calculate it as you didn't specify the make and model of your calculator.

I am trying to divide a whole into a smaller number that is a decimal, any help? The question is 5 divide into o.45

You didn't specify the make and model of your calculator, so I can't give you an exact keystroke sequence.

The calculator doesn't care whether a number is a whole number or not. Just do the division.

On most algebraic-logic calculators, to divide 5 into 0.45, press . 4 5 / 5 =
On an RPN or RPL calculator, press . 4 5 ENTER 5 /

On most algebraic-logic calculators, to divide 5 by 0.45, press 5 / . 4 5 =
On an RPN or RPL calculator, press 5 ENTER . 4 5 /

If you still have problems, please reply to this post specifying the make and model of the calculator you're trying to use.

How do you subtract fraction on a caluclator. problem: 6/7-2/5

A fraction is just a number like (almost) any other. On most calculators, as you enter 6/5 the calculator displays its decimal value. When you press - the calculator waits for a number 2 then / then 5. Once you press the equal sign it will calculate 2/5 then subtracts it from the preceding result. The priority rules favor multiplication and division over addition and subtraction.

On some calculators you can keep a fraction in fraction format and operate on it with other fractions, and the result may be obtained as a fraction.
The gist of the story is that ON A CALCULATOR operations on fractions as performed like operations on any number.
