If there's a possibility of moisture try leaving the camera in the airing cupboard for a day or put it in a sealed plastic bag/container with some silica gel sachets to try and remove the moisture.
The camera probably was exposed to moisture, could be a mother board problem, need to have it replace

Normally it can be an assortment of things:
Dirty contacts between lens and mount causing a glitch in the communication.
Use of outdated or obsolete chipsets on certain lenses
Jam in the motor
I/O error on the cf card
Mechanical failure
Most of the time its a bad contact with the lens and the mount. Try cleaning it with a q-tip to wipe residue off the metal contacts.
Hope that helps.........

In my case, I borrowed a camera and when I got it back, err 05 appears.
I've located a bit of old orange juice which sticked one of the sensors
- you can see the sensors when flash is popped out.

SOURCE: Canon EOS/Rebel XT won't power up
Joe, this happened to me, just tonight... I got a new CF card and stuck it in, turned it on and one CF card flash. Completely dead from there. I found one of the CF card pins bent over, shorted out the socket and blew the mainboard fuse. I took the camera apart, found the fuse (labelled K) about under the set button area) I bridged the fuse with a bit of solder, straightened out the pin in the socket, put it all back together and it's working fine. The fuse is under the right side shield cover, it's labelled with a letter K. There is another fuse on the power inlet board (below the shutter button) and it's labelled 'P'...
SOURCE: Canon rebel xt eos shows ERR CF. What do I do now?
Check that the pins in the camera that connect to the CF card are clean and not bent. You will probably need a good light and a magnifying glass to see into the card slot. If you can see a pin that is bent you could try straigtening it. BEWARE- turn off camera and use a non conducting "stick" ie cocktail or toothpick. Not sure for a Canon but a colleague paid £40 for a new pin assembly for a Nikon with similar problem.
Hope this helps.
