I am using the brother csi6000i with the 1/4inch seam guide. How do I get my needle adjusted to the hole on my guide presser foot?

The seam guide I'm using is the letter O.

You need to set the seam guide (or whatever you are using) to be 1/4" away from the needle. Basically, do not concentrate on moving the needle to accommodate the seam guide. Move the seam guide to accommodate the needle position. I use painter's tape and measure 1/4" from the needle point to place the painter's tape. Then I use the painter's tape as my seam guide.

I had that same problem and it was due to the thread being too tight. Put the thread net on your thread and it should be ok.

SOURCE: The presser foot came off Brothers sewing machine

position the foot under the shaft making sure the horizontal pin on the foot is in line with the horizontal groove on the end of presser foot fitting on the shaft. Lower the pressor foot arm and it should snap right on. If not, press it up manually. the directions should be in your manual. If you don't have your manual, you can get it online at www.brother-usa.com

SOURCE: Needle off center

Hi, definately a tech can adjust this and it is pretty easy (10 minutes) though one needs a special screwdriver type tool called an eccentric tool (though its possible to just center the needlebar by hand). There is a small screw in the stitch width mechanism near the front left of the needle bar that must be slightly loose. It needs to be loosend more then center the needle and tightend down again. Sorry I can't describe where exactly it is without showing you pics.

Are there options for the pressure foot? I'd like 1/4" for quilting. Or does the needle adjust?

Possibly and Possibly. Depends on the make & model machine.

Make Model presser feet

FWIW, if you have a presser foot that is narrow on the right side, you won't need a 1/4" foot. Use an accurate ruler, put it under the presser foot and gently lower the needle until the needle point rests just to the right of the 1/4" mark. Then stick a length of painter's tape along the right side of the ruler on the sewing machine arm. This will become your scant 1/4" seam guide.

If the needle of your machine can be moved to the right, then you move the needle right, measure (as above) from the needlepoint for the scant 1/4" mark using that foot. And mark with tape.

I use the painter's tape method all the time as I have not found a 1/4" foot that is accurate.

In actuality, almost any flat presser foot will work that is wide without any ability to roll edges, pintuck, etc. You can attain the 1/4" seam by measuring exactly 1/4" from the needle and mark with a strip of painter's tape, or some other movable material. Then just use that painter's tape as your 1/4" guide. Somewhere I saw someone recommended using 1/4" inch graph paper as a guide--set the needle on a line and use the 1/4" line for the fabric guide.

How to change sewing for different thicknesses

First, you will need to select a brand new needle of the type suitable for your fabric. Select a proper thread weight and type for your needle and fabric.

Select the proper presser foot for your project/fabric. On some fabrics, you may even want to use a straight stitch needle plate to prevent the fabric from going down the needle hole.

You will want to adjust the upper tension so that the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Also, probably want to adjust the presser foot pressure so that the presser foot presses harder or lighter (depending on the fabric) so the fabric will feed through evenly, ie both the top and bottom fabrics move together at the same rate. Hint: if it is really thick, like sewing a quilt with batting, a walking foot may be helpful.

Be sure to test on scrap fabric from your project before beginning sewing your project together.

All About Needles

Why is there an extra needle plate supplied with my machine Brother straight stitch plate and presser foot cannot be used with zig-zag or decorative stitch or you will surely break your needle and possible knock the machine out of time!

What foot should i use for quilting. i have a brother vx-1435

Your best option will be a "walking" or "even feed" foot. Your Brother dealer should have them in stock.

Cant get my bobbin in right position it keeps knotting up on inside of fabric

Top thread problem, Not enough tension on top=loops on the bottom of the fabric; too little tension on the bottom = loops on top of the fabric. Yes, I know it seems backwards. See: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/22521551
Dollars to donut holes, you either threaded the top of the machine with the presser foot down (it has to be UP to let the thread into the top tension), or you're trying to sew with the presser foot still up (which is an issue common to people trying to sew bulky seams).

Take the thread off the top of the machine, take out the bobbin case and give the machine a cleaning, rethread the machine, fetch up the bobbin thread and hold the bobbin and top thread ends together under and behind the presser foot for the first 2-3 stitches of each seam.

Viking Husqvarna Sapphire 830. I am not able to get a true 1/4" seam using the clear 1/4" Piecing Foot with Guide. The needle space in this foot only allows for the needle to be in the center location. ...

Unfortunately, in reality, most 1/4" presser feet do not guarantee a perfect scant 1/4". There are multiple ideas for achieving a more accurate scant 1/4" seam.

This is the method I use. Use a quilting ruler and place it under the presser foot and then gently rotate the handwheel until the needle point rests exactly a scant 1/4" from the ruler edge. Then place a strip of painter's tape on the sewing surface adjacent to the edge of the ruler. Then use the painter's tape as your fabric guide.

I can't get the foot to lower and raise.

it sounds like it's out of time--here's how to fix it
to adjust the pressure on the presser bar and in turn the foot, locate the thumb
screw at the top of the machine

by rotating the thumb screw clockwise, you will increase the pressure, a counter
clockwise turn will decrease the pressure

the correct height of the pressure foot from the needle plate is 7mm.
to adjust this clearence loosen the screw & adjust the pressure bar through
the guide
secure the screw firmly when the correct adjustment is obtained

the distance between the presser bar lifting arm & the presser bar guide should
be 0.5mm ..( be sure the needle bar does not rotate left or right during the
adjustment process. the needle must be center of the presser foot & needle
plate hole,, if this is not centered re-adjust to the center of both needle foot
& needle plate hole.

I wouuld like a 1/4 inch stitch is it passible with the 227?

This is the seam width?

Some machines can use a universal 1/4" presser foot.

If the needle can be positioned to the right, you may be able to use a regular presser foot.

A seam guide can be fabricated by using a sticky note pad or layers of painter's blue tape to act as a "wall" to help keep the raw edge of the seam feeding evenly. Measure 1/4" to the right from the needle and position the note pad or tape accordingly.
