There are two reasons why the generator does not generate electricity: the generator does not build pressure because the core of the rotor has too weak remanence or magnetic reversal; the generator rotor is not connected to the excitation current, the carbon brush is damaged or the excitation system is damaged.

SOURCE: Generator dose not produce power, just stop working.

Check the rectifier board installed under gen cover that powers the brushes. This board has a capacitor about 1 inch long and 3/4 inch dia. If the capacitor looks swollen or burned replace board or carefully remove cap and replace with similar. You can use a larger capacitor with same rating, just tie cap to rear cover. Also check the condition of the brushes. Parts are not too expensive. Check with jacksmallengines on the web for parts. enjoy

SOURCE: gnerator not producing ac power

I recently had a similar problem during "Sandy". I forgot to turn off the hot tub before starting the generator and the house lightswhere barely lit, dim, and flickering under the load. I quickly shut itoff andthe hot tub, but not before frying half of my generator. It will only produce 110now, not the 220 usual adn I need to get it fixed. I imaging you may be experienceing the same thing if you can't reset it. My generator has two reset buttons right next to the outlets on the unit itself.

Powerland tri fuel generator does not produce electricity

The most common cause of portable generators failing to produce electricity is from the loss of residual magnetism. Generators work by moving electrical conductors through a magnetic field. Your generator does not have magnets. ... When the residual magnetism is lost, the generator will produce no power at start-up.

There are a few methods of restoring a generator residual magnetism

12 Volt Generator Battery Method

Locate the voltage regulator for your generator.Unplug the two wires that connect to the generator brushes. Normally one is red and the other is black or white.Connect the black or white to the generator ground battery terminal.Plug in a light, turn on the generator breaker or switch and start the motor.Connect the battery +12 volts (red cable) to the red wire on the terminals you removed for three seconds.Remove your wires and replace the plug. The generator should now be producing power again.

Make sure you unplug the brush wires from the automatic voltage regulator or you will damage the regulator. Do not contact the voltage regulator or other wires as dangerous voltages may be present that can cause electric shock.

I'm dumb. Can I hook an inverater to my generator and produce more enegry than my generator produces???

Please understand that the generator produces power from fuel with an engine wheras the invertor is one which genrerates power from a stored battery using the principle of frequency switching a DC source to induct and produce AC.
Now you can have an uninterupted power supply setting with the invertor backed up by the generator so that when the battery voltage goes down you can start and charge the invertor and also supply the extra energy .
the ratings of both must also be considered.

I have a 3.5kva generator (wold powerking) only used 3 times spent 8 months still in box. Starts up but wont produce power!

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. When a brush type generator sits for a long period of time they sometimes require a field flash to get the generator producing power again. You can do this with something as simple as a 9V battery (difficult method) or a hand drill. I would recommend the hand drill. What you do is start the generator with the drill connected and the output power turned on. Once up to speed turn the drill by hand rapidly several times. (This generates a field) Mind you the drill will take off at normal speed once the generator starts producing power so please don't have a death grip on the drill chuck as you rotate it. The bigger the drill the better (more field power)

If this does not get you going again just respond here and there are other ways we can get your generator to start putting out power again. I doubt given your usage that there is any real problem with the circuitry.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My generator is not producing power runs fine does not make power

Could be several problems on the gen set itself. Check to see if there is a surge protection breaker or fuse, depending on age. Make sure all connecting wires are secure and switches are not set to 240v instead of 120v if you are trying to use outlets.
