Protection mode keeps the receiver from frying the power supply when a power transistor fails. You cannot reset it. You have to replace the failed power transistors.

Testimonial: "I had it reset before by the yamaha manufacturer. They advised me that it was reset and I wasent charged for any parts"

SOURCE: yamaha v50 keyboard won't boot up

The 2013 button battery must be replaced to boot up. You should find or make a battery holder with two leads to replace the soldered in battery.

SOURCE: 8001 Receiver keeps going into protect mode. What

Fastest way to check the receiver is to disconnect all speaker wires at the receiver and turn the unit back on. If it does not go into protect, your receiver is ok and you need to check all wires and speakers. If just one piece of braid on a speaker wire touches the other, it may not shut off immediately, however, as you turn up the volume the current level rises in the wire and creates a short. Thus, shuts down the receiver. If you need further help troubleshooting, post a comment and I can walk you thru it. Hope this helps.

My Yamaha RX667 won't stay on. Any idea what's wrong?

there may be a bad speaker or speaker connection and the yamaha is trying to protect itself.
there may be a shorted component inside the stereo allowing an improper voltage to go to the speakers and the yamaha is trying to protect your speakers.

Jvc home component mx-kb30 protect mode on

First check that the speaker wires are not shorting, if okay! the problem is in the audio output stage of the receiver, the protect mode comes on if a load is detected.

The protection circuitry has been activated 3 times consecutively and as a safety precaution, capability to turn on the power is disabled.

If there is no apparent cause for the protection mode activating (such as shorted speakers, burning smell, blown fuses, lighting strike or mains power surges), reset the protection as follows and see what happens.

Connect power cord to mains and wait 5 seconds or so. While holding down "info" and "tone control" buttons, press "main zone" power button briefly and release, but keep "info" and "tone control" buttons pressed for at least 3 more seconds. The unit should power up. Assuming the reason for the protection has passed or been fixed, the unit can now be turned off and then back on with the "main zone" power button to restore normal operation mode.
If the protector activates again, the fault is still present and the unit needs to be repaired, ideally by a Yamaha authorised repairer.
There are dangerous voltages present in high power amps and a lot of grunt in terms of stored energy - best left to trained technicians.

Audio keeps cutting out intermitenly on my Yamaha htr-5990 this will happen no matter what input is being used

Is it going into protect mode???
If so, check your speaker connections. Make sure there are no loose copper wires hanging out, and that your splices are clean at both the receiver and the speaker.
