Tpm.msc ( good answer that)
the word where, implies the 3d physical world.
as in "where is the motherboard TPM chip" would more accurately stated. or do I have one?
Build date 2011, 7 years old. so is not W8 certified, and with W8.
unless BIOS updated. (no OS stated, by you !)
the parts lists shows 2 motherboard came with it new.
w or w/o Bluetooth and ? who knows what.?

op, what are you attempting, to crack the chip?
can we be on the same page as you? (context wise?)
are you going to touch it with hands, cutters or soldering iron.
what are you doing.?
you do know that real TPM chip are designed from the ground up to make hacking impossible right?
if it is there at all,.
its odd to ask this at fixya , we are not Lenovo , we have no books on Lenovo here, but they do.
?????????????
are you trying to get bitlocker working, and forgot to say that key word, bitlocker?)
or what. there are many TPM features sets.
Bitlocker
BIOS UEFI lockdown with TPM enabled.
fingerprint readers, and the like.
and more. please do name a feature you want to uses.
or why asking for chip locations, btw by laws now march 2018
it is illegall now at most web sites and for sure the OEM forum.
to ask how to hack TPM , ok?
NO OS stated
NO JOB stated, or goal (sure lost password or stolen PCs)
no hint at all as to What's Up Doc.

this PC does not have UEFI bios (or not complete) nor a TPM.( not listed in PC spec at all)
last bios update is : (no w8 support) just w7 max.
26 Nov 2014 (maker does not show what this version does)
if hacking stop asking here please that is illegall(sic)

1: stolen PC?
2: lost Bios admin PW?
3: want to use w8 with full UEFI support, wont happen.
4: want BITLOCKER to work. (there are 2 ways) ask.
5: or what? , what is your need for TPM? unstated.

    it's like saying.
I have a safe, and need to know where to drill
the combo , wheels. so i can break in.
    2018 is not 2001.
the OEM will say, and did 1000s of times
    BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Are you referring to the Atmel EEPROM 24RF08 chip?
If so, in the T40 Thinkpad it is under the touchpad, I suspect on the T43 in may also in the same location.

Where is the bios chip located?

That will vary depending upon the mainboard design, but it is always on the mainboard. Most laptops, and many desktop PC mainboards these days have permanently installed (soldered in) BIOS chips. Older PC mainboards, and a few odd newer ones are still socket-mounted for the ability for removal/replacement/reprogramming.

My lenovo G550 turns black rigt after window shas started but it seems as though it is functioning without the desktop being visible

Gomolemo,

If the screen seems to be working up to the point where your system loads (Windows or other) and then it goes black, you could have an issue with the graphics chip on your computer. A less likely cause is that the driver program associated with that chip has become corrupted.

Often the screen will be visible when you first start because it is being driven by a generic screen driver and is not reliant of the features provided by the graphics chip. But when the system (say Windows) is loaded it tries to utilize the graphics chip and the associated driver. If either of these is not functioning correctly the display fails.

If you are using a laptop it will usually work okay if you attach it to an external screen.

The cure.

If you are using a desktop computer you may need to simply change the graphic card. With a laptop is may be more complicated. Sadly, these days the graphics chip on a laptop is often firmly attached to the mainboard and requires expertise and specialist tools to replace it.

But you could try deleting and then reloading the screen driver. If you are working with Widows, you may be able to do this by starting in "Safe Mode" or better still by attaching an external screen. Otherwise it is a bit more complicated.

Hope that helps

I have an IBM Thinkpad A31 with a power-on password that prevents me from using the laptop. Do you have a solution to take off the password without buying parts at the local Radio Shack that need to be...

Is it a Bios Password or a Hard Drive Password???
If a bios pass... you need to find the CMOS battery (think it's under your keyboard on that model, though not sure offhand).. Remove the battery.. Make sure battery is removed and not plugged in.. THen Hold Down The Power On Button For 30 Seconds.. Reattach the CMOS battery..
Boot Up The Laptop..
If Still Pass Locked Then You Have A Security Chip... this is embedded onto the mainboard and You would then need to replace the board (unless you know someone who can remove it and reflash it)..

Lenovo R61 beeps four times and according to manual has security chip problem. Does this mean replacing the motherboard and where can they be purchased.

assuming that u r a professional, the bios is not flashed in a wrong way n the ram(s) r ok..
check cmos battery & i/o cables/connectors r properly inserted..clean the teeth of ram(s) using a rubber to remove carbon coating n isopropyl alcohol, n resit it..
..well itz always better to hv a supervision of service center as they r sparsely available at the local market, we usually donot replace the system board as whole but try to repair using scraps n spares..
however, probably system board can ordered online: http://www.thinkpadmedic.com/listing.asp?PL=ThinkPad&CL=SB

Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Tablet security chip. lost bios boot password

I have had to retrieve the BIOS password from one of these before. It is not an easy thing to get to. You have to first
  • Build a special 9-pin Serial cable using parts you can find at Radio Shack
  • Dismantle the laptop
  • find the correct BIOS chip,
  • Solder a couple wires to the correct pins of the BIOS chip (without getting solder on the other pins, or damaging something)
  • Hook it up to another computer via serial port
  • Do a dump of the information stored on the BIOS chip
  • Use a hex-reader to decipher the information and display the password within.
Here is a link to a site that shows you in detail how to accomplish this. It does work, and I've successfully used the linked method to unlock a X41 of my own.

Hi, i have lenovo laptop and i forget my HDD1 password which is set in the BIOS. so plese send the solution for this.....i hope.....

Hi, depends on the laptop in question. If it's a newer model I am afraid your pretty well knackered as the the hard drive will be encrypted using the security chip in the laptop and one won't work without the other so I don't think a new hard drive will work either unfortunately but it might do. If this is the case you have 4 options

1 - Re-solder a new security chip onto the board (good luck with that).
2 - Replace the motherboard (expensive unless you can pick one up on Ebay).
3 - Try a new hard drive (might be lucky)
4 - Remember the password

You could also search Google for a hack, As I said depend on the age of the laptop but are some for older chips but not for the newer ones as far as I know. I have been successful with older HP's and Toshiba's but I haven't had to break into one for a while and as I said last time I tried with a lenovo I spoke to lenovo and they told me it wasn't possible.

Hope that helps

DC Power jack broken

Looks like you're right, I did not see any Lenovo replacement jacks either. You might try looking at the IBM Thinkpad jacks for various models to see if you can find the same jack.

I've repaired 3 laptops with this problem. Rather than replacing the jack on the mainboard I wired a "pigtail" to the mainboard and then zip tied a female connector to the back of the laptop itself. I did this because the mainboards were pretty beat up from the heat the original jack produced as it began to loosen. The end result is not as pretty as the original jack, but it absolutely takes all the stress off the mainboard. Those computers will never have this problem again.

Good luck.
