Clicking noise from subwoofer

Shortly after turning on the power to the subwoofer, whether in the "auto" or "on" mode, I get an intermittent clicking noise coming from the area of the power switch. I have tried plugging the subwoofer into different outlets, but have had the same result. Any easy fix?

I have the same problem with my JBL subwoofer.

I have the same problem with the clicking noise. Also, the green on LED is flashing in sync with the clicking noise and the red standby light does not come on at all with or without audio input. The clicking is an internal relay that seems to be shutting down the power to the unit. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? It has worked fine for several years until now.

I have the same problem wit the clicking which is in sync with the green power led turning on and off. The red standby light does not come on with or without input signal. The clicking is from an internal relay that appears to be killing power to the unit but why?

Klh powered subwoofer model ASW10-120B... when you plug in to power... it makes a loud buzzing/humming noise

I would check the caps on the power supply. They are rather large electrolytic capacitors that will look like they burst and/or leaking. When these die, the caps ground and the sub will make a loud buzzing sound. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can replace them yourself. Replace them with the same voltage or a little bigger and same with the size.

If the cap. says 16v 4700pF on it, for example, a 20v 5300pF or a 16v 6200mF cap. will work for this application.

My subwoofer will not wake up, regardless of whether I flip the switch from Auto to On or not. Suggestions?

The sub settings for testing should be: Crossover frequency - Max; Volume - Mid; Phase - Normal.

As a quick test, unplug the sub cab from the amplifier/receiver end. Switch on the sub and turn the volume down all the way. Briefly put your finger across to short the RCA/phono tip and ring. The sub should make a buzzing sound. You now know that the sub is working and the cable appears to be okay or not.

If you've got power then that's a good thing. It could be something simple as a broken solder joint or bulging capacitor.

No power to the speaker

Power Mode (rear-panel): This switch can be set to either On, Off, Auto. If the switch is in the Off position, the subwoofer will not power up. If the switch is in the On position, it will constantly remain on. If the switch is set to the Auto position, when a signal is present the subwoofer will turn on and will automatically turn off several minutes after a signal is no longer present.

S8 makes a very loud vibrating buzzing noise with only the power lead plugged in

Check for ground loops. Also shut off any CFL or LED lamps inthe vicinity.

You may also have an intermittent connection on the input.

There is a lesser chance that there is an internal failure of a capacitor on the amp power supply, but it is a possibility to look at if all the wiring is in place and soundly connected. The S8 has a high gain amp. It will pick up interference from CCFL or LED ballasting supplies it will also be able to pick up other switch mode power supplies. in vicinity of the input cable.

Clicking noise from sub when in standby mode

Disconnect the input. Does it stop? If yes...

It sounds like it's sensing a signal at its turn-on threshold. Figure out why there's signal present when it shouldn't be there.

Exactly how is it connected to the source? LFE-only or full-range signal?

The picture and sound on my 55 inch Sony disappears momentarily

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. But if you don't hear any strange noises,tv is around 6000 hrs,2-4 yrs it could be time to replace the lamp. The lamp you need is XL-2200.You can find it here: http://www.discount-merchant.com/Sony-XL-2200-TV-Bare-Lamp-Bulb-p/sony_xl-2200u_a1601753a_lamp.htm?Click=48173 Have a blessed one!

Subwoofer clicking noise

Hi I am afraid it sounds like exactly the same problem I had, Namely the PSU(power suplly unit) is failing, This is a common fault (by reading loads of forums) I contacted KEF today about mine and they say the probably wont be able to source any more spares(due to so many having thuis problem no doubt) So I would suggest contacting the people you bought it from,Under the consumer protection act you should expect an electrical item to "Last a reasonable amount of time" .Mine is 3 years old and I do not consider this to be a long period so kick up and you should be entitled to a repair or at worst a partial refund.Look here basically the same Sub.
