Utilitech 1 hp lawn pump runs for awhile, then shuts down. After a few minutes, the process repeats. It's pumping water from a lake, but must be overheating. Is it fixable? How do I fix it?

when pumping from a lake you will be pumping uphill
centrifugal pumps are susceptible to over loading because operators do not realize that water has mass and weighs a lot and the pump has to things to contend with
first lifting the water from the lake ( lift height)
the volume of water in the suction pipe will load the motor
now that it successfully lifts that water mas up it now has to push it up hill to a receiving tank of some sort
now distance to that tank ( friction in the pipe ) and height up to the tank inlet ( head pressure and it is measured as the height the discharge pipe is above the pump level --not ground level) have to be considered
unless you are a hydraulic engineer or have the equipment installed by irrigation experts all of this information will be foreign to you and that will result in too small a pump and yes it will overheat and in cases the water in the pump will boil as energy from the impeller of the pump has to go somewhere if the water is not moving
what I am suggesting here is to get pump experts involved to design a proper system with sufficient hp motor and pump volume to do the job

Gould water pump

I service all sorts of Goulds water pumps for a living but will need some more info to troubleshoot your problem. For starters would need to know what voltage feeds it, single or three phase, horsepower, type of controller (pressure switch, Variable Frequency Drive, Three phase across the line start etc.), what you are doing with it, pump model number, motor frame number, etc. etc.

No water come out from the water suppy onto the washing tube.pls help

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. If you are saying that water is not getting into the washer, you probably have a bad water pump. It may need replaced. Check to make sure it is kicking on.

Car not heating up. just replaced water pump as advised. checked thermostat but didnt replace it. temp gauge staying low and no heat inside. water pump was leaking prior and bearing loose, but now still...

replace the thermostat with one that falls in the range recommended by the manufacturer. If you are watchful, you can always put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. If you start getting HOT, remove the cardboard.

I am presuming you are talking about a automobile ... not a Craftsman Lawn Tractor ...
