Did you press and hold the reverse button? If you did, then some link between the button and the feed dog is damaged. That may need to be repaired by a professional. However, the parts may not be available for this machine. I have at least one source for a service manual for the 5018: https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/service-manual-janome-5018.aspx . This particular online store has some of the more common parts for the Janome 5018.

Janome has the manual for the 5018 Decor Excel on the retired machine support page: https://www.janome.com/support/retired-machine-manuals/ . This is in the right hand column under Other Machines. The current link to the manual is https://www.janome.com/siteassets/support/manuals/retired/other-models/inst-book-5018-ennose.pdf . The Reverse button is described on page 7 (page 18 of the PDF).

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Janome Excel 5124 reverse lever

If you pull the bottom off the machine (half a dozen screws) there is a cam on the main drive shaft. The cam is probably jammed in the reverse position due to lack of lubrication on the shaft. You can move the cam back manually and it will operate in forward direction. It appears that the shaft needs lubrication.

SOURCE: Janome SD-2014 sewing machine dogs fails to operate in reverse

The grease has hardened and that is what makes it not work. You need to remove the spring and clean all the old grease off it. You can put new grease on if you want but it isn't necessary. The machine should be lubricated with a good quality sewing machine oil(not 3 in 1). You need to oil any place that moves and rubs, This includes the ends of each shaft, the needle bar and the cinnecting links that drive the needle bar. Nothing is permanently lubricated.. you'll find this machine will run much smoother and quieter with fresh lubrication. As a matter of fact, if you use the machine a lot, it should be lubricated once a year and never less thanonce every 5 years.
One more thing. If it is on the main shaft that it has hardened you can spray it with a mixture of fantastic, water and some ammonia. Free it up and give it a light shot of oil.

SOURCE: model 385.15718500..machine only goes in reverse

Sounds like the reverse mechanism has jammed...either with lint or lack of use and oil/lint has frozen the mechanism.
Unplug the machine and remove the base. Clean all the lint with small brush and vacuum.
Try the reverse lever to see where the connecting rods are and identify the collar around the bottom shaft....try to move manually, use a little lubricant where the collar moves on the shaft.
In extreme cases it may take several applications over several days to rectify this, but as this is only 3 years old, should respond quickly

SOURCE: Feed dog lever not working on my Kenmore 385 24 stitch machine

I surfed around this site for various suggestions, finally took the bottom plate off and cleaned and oiled all the parts along that rod that goes right across (think it's a drive bar that rotates). Ran the machine without thread in for a few minutes to let the oil soak in. Machine now works fine.

SOURCE: reverse stitch lever not "activating" the feed dogs to go in reverse

Likely old oil and lint forming "glue" in the mechanism....suggest a General Service if you are not willing to clean this yourself, or more than 2 years since last service

Installing reverse lever for Singer Simple 3116

How To Reverse Stitch On A Singer Sewing Machine Correctly

Step 1. Press the reverse button

  • Refer to the Singer manual of the specific machine you have
  • Please find the button with the U-shaped arrow, typically at the front of the sewing machine, or check your manual for where it's located
  • Press the reverse stitch button and start sewing

Step 2. Start sewing

  • Hold the material as the sewing machine sews backward and stop it manually by taking your foot off the pedal
  • Deactivate the reverse stitch function by pressing the button again
  • Be careful not to hit the thread plate to avoid bunching
  • If you accidentally press the wrong button, turn off the Singer sewing machine and turn it on again to reset

Most likely your machine has a reverse. Here is an owner's manual:

Now the dog feet won't move back up into position

Hello, Carole -

If you have the owner's manual for your Janome Decor Excel 5018 sewing machine, then you can find the diagram naming the parts of the sewing machine (page 2, English text) and showing part #22, the drop feed lever. This is the lever which controls the feed dog.

If that lever does not move either way, then there may be something jamming the feed dog (like lint) or it may need cleaning and oiling.

If you don't have the manual for your machine, see the image to which I refer here:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994905/Janome-Decor-Excel-5018.html?page=8#manual

See this page from the manual to find out how to clean the feed dog:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994905/Janome-Decor-Excel-5018.html?page=78#manual

Another possibility for the feed dog not moving is if you have your machine set to the "free-motion" or "darning" operation, which disables the feed dog.

I have janome decor excel 5018.what stitc do i use on twin needle.

Preferably straight stitch. Otherwise, the widest of any stitch will need to fit through the presser foot and needleplate. Stitches that are too wide will result in broken needles and possibly a machine knocked out of time.

My Janome JL250 is stuck in reverse

Probably the reverse mechanism has stuck. Only suggestion may be working the lever manually to see if it frees up. Other than that, it would need service or replacement.

My back stitch wont reverse

Has the machine been unused for a 'long' period of time? Some of the Janome machines did a similar thing - the oil becomes 'sticky'on the mechanism attached to the reverse lever. Can often be fixed by removing the free arm cover and spraying a little Innox (using the supplied straw) in the area where the lever operates. Work it back and forth .... it may come good. It could need tobe dismantled if it wont free up however. Good luck! :)

I have a Janome sewing machine, #423S that I have never used. It is second hand. It sews nicely, but I cannot find the reverse lever on it

The reverse lever should be below the stitch width lever. (It's a wide lever in its own recessed area. just above the level of the extension table.) See page 2 (page 4 of the PDF) available here: http://content.janome.com/documents/File/ManualFile/Inst%20book%20419S%20&%20423S1.pdf .

I hope this helps.
