The switch with E/A, F/B, G/C, H/D is the band selector. the switch with PA, FM, AM is the mode selector. use this switch if you want to work on FM or AM.

SOURCE: rf gain has no effect on radio at all/galaxy 44 model

test resistance of the variable resistor ( rf gain) to make sure the pot is not dry use some electrical lube behind the pot to clean internal connections. pot resistance is stamped on the back.
other than that if your receive is week you have most likely a fault in one of the filters or pll

check the am voltage regulator. you should have 12vlts on pin 1 ,4volts on pin 2 ,13 vlts on pin 3 . go to ( CB tricks .com ) its the same board layout as galaxy 44 . http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/superstar/3900/graphics/ss3900_sch.gif if you are looking at the board on solder side ,knobs faceing you ,it is located on top left hand corner ,about 1 inch down you will see the slot cut into the board .if you have vlt on pin2 less than 4vlts or higher than 8vlts its bad. No, the Galaxy DX44V is a single final radio. It is a 1969 transistor (tr43) mounted on the rear chassis in between the RF driver amp transistor (tr44) and the antenna jack.
