Assuming your model number is actually PEB2060SM2SS, this (like most counter top models) requires remvoal of the outer wrapper / cover, then you will be able to see and remove the control panel screw from the rear of the control panel frame.

But more importantly, why do you want to remove it?

If you'll let me know your symptoms, I can help you determine what the problem and solution would be.

In FixYa doesn't notify me, you can e-mail me directly at [email protected].

You can find helpful exploded views and find part numbers here:

SOURCE: How do i replace the keypad of GE Profile over the range microwave

We have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting. It will help you test the keypad with your meter.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

If you'd rather have us fix it for you, we do that for $39.95 plus parts.

DISCONNECTING THE KEYPAD

1. Be sure the oven is disconnected from the power line while you are taking it apart.

2. The keypad connection is the green or blue translucent plastic strip that plugs into a connector near the edge of the board.

3. There are two tiny tabs (one on each side) of the connector that you can gently pull up on to unlock the connector.

4. Then the keypad strip will lift out. Clean both sides of the end of the strip with alcohol-based cleaner if you like, but do not use ammonia-based cleaner. Dry the end of the strip. (A pencil eraser is better and safer).

5. Put the keypad strip back in, making sure both sides are down fully.

6. While holding the strip down, push the connector back down to lock it.

7. Try the keys again with the door closed.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: I have a GE Profile Microwave and the handle is broken....

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.

SOURCE: Repalce Door handle on GE Profile model number SCA1000DBB03

There're some half a dozen or so small screws securing that frame to the door face. These screws must be removed. Then, the frame can be pried out by releasing the plastic snappers (with a flat screwdriver) while in the same time gently helping the frame to detach from these snappers' hold and the door face. It's a tidious, somewhat annoying task. The snappers may and will even likely break in the process, but aren't needed for the frame to be resecured to the door face after the handle is replaced. Note that the broken ends of the handle must be held with a pair of pliers or a flat screwdriver needs to be inserted bewteen each of them and the hole, or the ends will turn with the screws. This is because the metal screws' grip of the plastic handle broken ends is very strong and otherwise won't get separated.Once the above is accomplished, reassembling the door is a brease.

P.S.: The dual end latch may interfere somewhat with the job and can be removed for the process to be undertaken without it disturbing. It's easy to remove and replace that latch, including its spring.

SOURCE: Handle broke off my GE Advantium 120 microwave

You are correct. The handle screws can be accessed by simply removing the interior facing of the door, and can easily be replaced without the assistance of a repairman. This is a common problem with some microwave oven doors.

To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, simply open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You can view some excellent exploded view diagrams of your oven at pcappliancerepair.com as reference to see how the parts are assembled.

My ge profile microwave model pvm1870sm133 is not working properly. when you open the door the cooling fan turns on

Unplug and cease using this as you are exposing yourself to electro magnetic radiation. The door switch may have failed, you will need to disassemble the front panel to access the switch which is located within one of the holes that he door's hooks insert into and depresses to inform the control board the door is closed and is safe to operate.

My microwave turned off with no display and i have made sure all the breakers are on.... what else could be the problem? GE profile XL1800

It may be the internal 20A fuse or a thermal cutout (TCO) on top of the oven cavity or mostly likely the one attached to the magnetron.

These models do not use a "screw-on" type fuse (whatever that is - a "guru" after 46 votes?!), it will be a 6x30mm ceramic type and it simply snaps into the fuse holder.

Being a GE, there should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when locating components and troubleshooting, and testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Since you mention Profile XL1800, that means the all-important model number from the tag in or on the unit would probably be something like JVM1861WB001, etc.

Using the actual model number, you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts here.

Accessing some parts may require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Replacing the handle on ge microwave jvm2070bh002

To replace the door handle you need to access the door handle screws. On MOST microwave ovens, you just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. This can be easily be accomplished by using a small screwdriver or putty knife and carefully insert along the seam of the inner panel and pry the plastic up. Work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful RF radiation.

With the inner panel removed, the door handle screws are visibile and can easily be accessed with a screwdriver. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel, gradually working your way around the perimeter of the door glass to ensure it snaps back into place and seats properly.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwaves, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.

You can view an exploded view diagram of your microwave at pcappliancerepair.com for reference. Just type in your model number and locate the parts listing for the door. If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
