Kirby G10D vacuum head not spinning. The belt is not broken, the green light wont come on. I can spin the head with my hand so it is not jammed. I also noticed a burnt rubber smell

The burnt rubber smell tells me your belt is slipping. Could be your head is set too low to the floor and causing too much pressure or your belt could be wore out. Ours did that and I had to purchase a new belt and reset the head off the floor a little bit.

SOURCE: Eureka Maxima Bagless brush not spinning in vacuum position

belt doesnt have to be broken, check the metal arm on the vacuum, see if there is build up of old rubber from previous belts, clean the arm that spins the belt and double check to make sure u have the correct belt

Sounds like you have a bad brush roll(48414115), take it out and see the the ends turn freely or not, if not, then replace it. Also check the the slots that the brush roll sits in to make sure they haven't melted. I am assuming that the motor is running, if not, then it may have froze up.

SOURCE: burning smell

Unlock the sweeper brushes and take them out. on each end is a cup bearing and should be free of debris.
then check around and under the belt and likely there is debris wrapped around it.
the post is getting hot as your pulling too much of a load.
though if it continues the motor may have a bad set of motor brushes (inside the motor) or bad wiring (kinda unlikely).

SOURCE: smells (burnt rubber) like it's overheating when I vacuum

I would check the brush roller and make sure it turns good and replace the belt on it . When you smell burning rubber most of the time it is the belt .

Should the green light be on while I am using my Kirby vaccum

If you mean the light on the top or side of the Power Nozzle, yes, it should be on for most uses. You can disengage the belt for other uses. The green light illuminates when the belt is turning the brush roll. So, you see, the green light functions to confirm to you that the brush roll is spinning. For carpet, you would want the brush roll spinning. When I vacuum my comforter or sofa, I don't have the belt engaged because I don't want the roller to grab up my fabric. For that use, the green light is not illuminated.

Green light kirby vacuum

The green light does not affect the performance of your vacuum. There is a small magnet in the brush roll that makes the light glow to show you the brush is spinning properly. If your light worked before you took the vacuum in for service you can look at the brush roll to see if it has been installed properly. The magnet should line up to spin at the spot where the green light is. If the brush is not installed properly or the wrong brush roll is installed the magnet will not line up with the green light.

Green light doesn't come on

The green light means the brush is spinning. Your brush roll may be bound with hair or debris and/or your belt may be stretched out and not spinning the brush fast enough. Belts should be replaced at least twice a year.

Green light on power nozzle of Kirby vacuum, Model G7D

The green light is just to inform you that the brushroll is spinning. there is a magnet on the brushroll that makes the green light come on every time it rotates. also why it looks like the light flickers because the magnet only makes contact once per rotation of your brushroll. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Do i want the green light on or off on kirby upright

It has nothing to do with the green light. Green light simply indicates that brush roll is spinning. If there is no green light:
1 - belt may be broken
2 - Improperly installed nozzle
3 - wrong brush roll is installed

Properly adjust the nozzle - turn the Kirby on. Keep lowering the nozzle till it touched the carpet and you will hear change in sound. Then lower it by one more click.
