SC 590 on a Savin 917. Looks like I need to replace the drum. Bad Copy Qual.

I would remove and cover the drum carriage (to protect the drum from damage by exposure to light), and check and clean the corona wires. There is a charge corona and a transfer corona, so that's two coronas that you'll have to clean. If you can remove the coronas from the machine, you can do a better job of cleaning the coronas. A faded line down the page like you're getting could be a paper shard stuck to one of the coronas... it's been known to happen.

Is this ink or toner? Ink will expire if it is on a shelf too long. Toner is a powder that is applied with heat to the paper. It does not expire but will appear faded if the printer is in economy mode or low on toner. on a 4 drum system each drum is independent of the others and can run low or out at separate times. Therefor to save money only replace the empty drums. Have you changed the drum recently? If it is toner try removing it and shaking it, then reinsert it. If you have other boxes of this drum see if you can find a date on the box. ink over three years old may not work well.

are you printing from Doc feeder or glas?? if from feeder then try to make a copy from the glass, does it still do it? yes problem is with drum.
No? problem is with the small scanning glass to the left, look carefully see if any spots or lines on the 1inch glas --- clean it

you have an over heat error. you need to test your thermistors, s and lamps for continuity.replace bad parts. then you need to go to service mode and reset the code

Key counters are used when a copy machine is set up for public use where copies are charged on a per copy basis. Key counters look like small boxes that plug into the side of the machine and they have a counter on them that looks like a cars odometer. A user plugs in the key counter, makes copies and then takes the counter to a register to pay for the copies they made. Sounds like that is what you have going on.
