The error code 6A00 on the Canon MP530 printer indicates that the auto-purge unit of the printer is not functioning properly. The unit consists of squeegees that remove excess ink from the print head nozzles after printing. When this mechanism of the squeegees fails, the 6A00 error will be displayed on the printer's control panel. Paper jams can also cause the error. Understand the steps given below to fix the issue.
Clearing paper jam
First, make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions inside the printer.
1. Shut off the printer and remove the paper from the ASF.
2. Pull the jammed paper out slowly using both your hands.
3. Open the scanning unit and clear any torn paper bits remaining inside the printer.
4. Clear any jammed paper from the cassette area.
5. Power on the printer and try to print.
Cleaning the auto-purge unit:
Raise the printer lid to access the ink cartridges. Let the carriage move to the center. Unplug the printer and move the carriage to the left.
1) Pull the pads (color and black ink) out using your fingers. Do not drop the pads into the printer.
2) Rinse the pads.
3) Wipe the squeegees. Clean the top and front edges of the squeegees.
4) Use a clean damp paper towel to wipe off the inks on the guides and blades.
5) Make sure the squeegees can easily move.
6) Clean the rails using the paper towel.
7) Check for any clogs in the two holes below the pad position. Clear the clog so that the holes through which the hoses suck the ink from the pads and release it to the large absorbent pads at the bottom.
8) Place the pads back in their positions.
9) Lift the pad trays and clean the ink on it.
10) Close the lid. Try to print.
Hope the issue is resolved.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.
Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Hi there
This answers with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.
Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.
As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.
Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.
And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit.
The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model.
And it’s always a paper path error or purge unit.
The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.
That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.
So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.
Also clean the purge unit out make sure all is clean.

I Had the same problem with my Canon Pixma iP4000:
- Service Error 6A00
- 12 flashes alternating orange green
- AP Position Error
I think the 6A00 is a mechanism jam code.
Regarding Error code 6A00. I got that code. No easy answers on the internet so I took it apart myself. The covers are all snap locked on. It was a bit painful but I got the side and top covers off to reveal the print head. There is a device that slides back n forth and acts like a window cleaners squeegie on the printhead. This mechanism seemed to be stuck at its full extention rather than being back at home base. Every time I turned it on and off I could see it tried to move but seemed to be stuck. I gave it a little assistance and that released it. I think it had become glugged up with drying ink and that had acted like a glue holding it out at full extension. The mechanism that drives the sliding squeegie relies on a spring
for it to return. The spring wasn't strong enough to over come the gluey ink and so the whole thing jammed up which is probably what the code means - jammed mechanism. If you are going to try it. Do not force any part of the covers. There are little arrows in the plastic indicating where the snap locks are, stick a flat head screw driver in to release. Trial and error will release the right ones first. You'll release one part only to find it hooked up at the next snap lock. Some are hidden under or on opening covers so keep looking. The base seems to be securly attached to the workings so dont try and get it off. Just top and sides. Ink is water based so a damp rag is all you need to clean. If youre not technically minded dont bother.
Also, The problem could be that the little black ink pad tray (which the heads park on) was not moving down out of the way and the white squeegy thingy was getting stuck on it.
After disassembling the printer, I found what was apparently the return spring and the broken plastic clip that it used to attach to. I couldn't tell where it used to attach to, but it was obvious the only thing pulling the tray down was gravity and that was not enough.
The simple solution I found was to use a thin rubber band to replace the spring. I girth hitched one end on to the bottom of the tray in the middle between the hoses that drain the tray. The other end I just looped onto a tab sticking out of the bottom of the chassis. Easy and works like a charm!
To disassemble your printer, visit this link:

You can also get the manual from there as well. If you also want the parts catalog and some other service docs (it will cost you $10), visit this link:

I wouldn't bother with the manuals and the docs, there not very helpful, but interesting nonetheless.
Hope this will help you. Regards

I have been investigating my MP530 for the 6A00 error, following all that I could discover about it...
I have slid the print head to and fro, checked/cleaned the cushions on the cleanse unit, cleaned the print head, even opened it up just to search for impediments/and so forth.
My perceptions:
I saw my print head doe not appear to need to come back to it's park position (more often than not), it goes to a detect a couple of creeps to one side of it and after that the blunder code is appeared.
I have additionally seen the cleanse unit in real life: cushions go down, wipes go over, cushions go up. It for the most part does this in any case
