I suggest you check the troubleshooting guide in the manual, as there are several causes for the resistance not changing.

Customer Service If you still can't figure out the problem you may need in-person help. Find a place that sells Schwinn exercise bikes or see if someone at a local gym that has recumbents can help you. The bike is apparently made by Nautilus.
