Just installed batteries into vintage Great American Express train set. Where the heck is the on switch? Help?

    Several models shown for sale on EBAY.COM.

    One shows a remote control, and it is unclear if that is your train or not.

switch pieces on opposite sides, one straight piece on each side of switch piece, then 5 curved pieces each end.

Ours is a really old model, but the on/off button is located on the second car (coal car) towards the very front. It's red on our set. I am looking for help on the smoke part. I can't remember what we're supposed to use for that.

The train is not responding to the remote.

I had a similar problem with my 11000 Holiday Tradition Express. I cleaned the track with an eraser (pencil-type) and then used a soft cloth to clean any possible residue. After doing this twice, my train is now running.
