Heater and bi-metal defrost thermostat can be tested for continuity with an ohm meter. If both of them are good, then board is bad.

SOURCE: evaporator not defrosting

element can be checked by continuity test, you should have continuity through it. theres a defrost thermostat clipped to the top of the evap also common to go bad.. closes at specific temp ( written on side of thermo) allowing heater to come on, if it remains open the heater wont be energized

SOURCE: evaporator fan jams with ice buildup from drain

Could be that, or it could be the temperature sensor on the evaporator - if that goes, then as soon as the freezer starts a defrost cycle, it will think it's got the evaporator hot enough and will start cooling again.

Suggest you let the freezer thaw out then, with a voltmeter connected across the terminals on the board which connect to the sensor, turn the freezer on and see if the sensor reacts sensibly to the evaporator cooling down. It's usually done with a thermistor, but just for the moment, I can't remember whether it's usually a PTC or an NTC.

That way, if it is the sensor, you'll be spared the expense of replacing a serviceable pcb.

SOURCE: evaporator fan blade jams in ice buildup

check the defrost bimatal or defrost thermanstat it will be located on the evaperator suction line (large line) it should read continuity with the ref cold if it showes continuity then the defrost timer is the problem

SOURCE: evaporator coil freezing, replaced main control

It is possible you have a defective fan motor in the condenser area or evaporator area. Sometimes when they become defective they will run for a while and just warm up and stop while the compressor continues to run. I learned that one on four costly returns to the home. The cost was to me not the customer. Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have a Kitchenaid frig model KFIS29BBMS00 that is not cooling at all. I have replaced both boards and frans are running and coils are clear. It’s not in demo mode. The compressor is running. Help

The compressor may be running, but if there's been a refrigerant leak, it will be running very hot. If it's run like that for more than the very shortest instant, the compressor will be burned out and will need replacement... note that repairing the leak and the system being flushed is vital when the compressor is replaced.

The good news is that it's a warranty repair. The bad news is you need to have a warranty - if it's very old, the callout charge, parts and labor may be more than it's worth in which case put the money towards a replacement.

Ge side by side refrigerator freezes then immediately thaws

replace the evaporator thermistor located on the top of this coil behind the inside freezers rear cover panel,it looks like a small 22 caliber bullet and has 2 small white wires protruding from the one end, this reads the evaporator coil temperature info and determines when to defrost the evaporator coil,a good way to test it is to open the control board in the rear of the unit unplug the upper right J1 connector and measure pin 1 and 5 for resistance of approximately 16,000 ohms when the thermistor is un-clipped off the evaporator and immersed into a glass of ice water for at least 5 minutes prior

How to test defrost timer circuit board

Good day,
With the machine running at least 6 hours, unplug. Wait for a period in excess, of 30 seconds.
Then turn the thermostat off.
Plug in.
This should place it into the defrost mode, turning the main heater in the freezer on, if...........
The defrost thermostat (terminator) mounted on the top of the evaporator coil coil is good. If the terminator is bad, the test will fail.
If your problem is the coil is frosting up, This machine is made by Whirlpool.
The board and terminator, have a fairly high failure rate. In fact, whirlpool has substituted a timer for the board on many of these models.
The price of both, is low enough, that replacing both makes sense.

Build in kitchenaid, freezer working but not freezing

This video I made how to change evaporator on Thermador refrigerator, which is just copy of of Build in Kitchenaid. Problem was that it was running, but ice cream never got frozen. I checked pressures, was low on freon. I checked evaporator coils - found out that defrost heater got deformed and was touching evaporator coils - so it burned holes, where freon started to leak.( I think it designed not best way). Defrost heater on this fridges way to close to evaporator coils. Check this video to get an idea what Im talking about. I hope That helps u to understand why this repair is so expensive and what causing it.

Lots of moisture in freezer, barely freezing

The problem is that the unit is not initiating the defrost cycle. This can be caused by a bad defrost heater. This can be tested with an ohm meter to see if it has continuity. It can also be caused by a bad temperature sensor, this can also be tested by an ohm meter. (it should change resistance based on temperature) It can also be caused by the defrost timer failing (this is a microcontroller board in newer units)

GE refrigerator gsl25xgwss defrost problem

Either heater or Board is most likely bad. You can remove heater and test it with ohm meter for continuity
