SOURCE: Bernina 1630 needle will not move go side to side.

If you can pull the needle bar down manually and it springs back up, the basting clutch is stuck. By someone who knows how, it's a very easy fix. I would guide you here, but I don't know how to explain it. Plus, you have to be very careful not to damage the spring loaded clutch.

Are parts still available for the Bernina 1630?

Some parts are available for the Bernina 1630, https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bernina-1630-sewing-machine-parts.aspx?index=44 . Compatible presser feet and bobbins are probably available at most vendors. Other parts may be harder to find.

I hope this helps.

How do I oil my Bernini 1630?

Page 78 of the manual. If you need the manual, you can download it free.

You need a Yahoo gmail account. Select Yahoo Groups and find the "BerninaThirtySomethings" group. Request to be added as a member. Once you have access, go into the Files folder and locate the Bernina 1630 manual.

(If I could figure out how to do it, I would attach the manual in Fixya, but unforunately...)

Bernina 1630 Can't adjust stitch length - any ideas.

Hm, the 1630's are still mechanical machines with some electronics, right? Could be the mechanics have seized due to old oil solidifying and preventing things from moving like they should. This is the method I've used on completely mechanical Berninas that have seized. (Use caution in not getting oil on the computer components!)

How can fix stuck needle bar on my Bernina 730

Will not zigzag or decorative stitches New to these newer plastic style...

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Bernina 1630

I have a Bernina Virtuosa so not the same machine - but this may help. There is an icon on the front of the machine - it is a needlepoint pointing at a dot in an oval - there are arrow buttons on either side. These move the needle left or right of center and it shows on LED screen. I checked mine just now and if you turn machine off and on it resets to center automatically. Hope this helps - Happy Sewing!!
