SOURCE: CRG9700 - OVEN TEMPERATURE BIG FLUCTUATIONS

biggest issue with any gas oven is a faulty ignitor, not maintaining oven temp, too long to preheat, taking too long to cook, possible slight gas smell during operation, all signs of a bad ( or going bad) ignitor

SOURCE: oven temperature off

If you have a ohm meter you can ohm out the temp sensor. It has a harness that connects in the back. Unplug it and it should read around 1100 ohms at room temp. It sounds to me more like the ignitor itself. It has to draw so many amps to open up the gas valve. Check the sensor first. If it ohms out, change the ignitor. I think your problem will go away. SOURCE: hotpoint electic stove, the burners and the oven not working

Is there any sign of life? Does the oven light come on or does the clock work? Just for kicks, go and reset the breaker - it should be a double breaker for a 220V appliance - sometimes half will throw and still leave 110v that will run the light / clock.

What's causing my oven to stay hot HOURS after I've turned it off?

If you have the older type stove with the oven knob that has the temperature setting around the outside of the knob, then that part could be bad. It is called a thermostat. That part usually comes with sensor attached. The sensor is the long skinny looking tube that goes through a hole and into the oven.
If you have the newer type electronic stove where you program in the temperature you want, the electronic circuit board could be bad. But the electronic stoves have a over temperature protection built into the circuit board, so that would have engaged, shutting down the stove.
Either way, it is a potential fire hazard and needs to be addressed.

Hotpoint oven won't heat above 250 degrees broiler works fine as well as the stove top

either its the oven sensor rod located at the top of the ovens cavity,or your bake element could be getting a hot spot which is when it gets a discolored spot in the element and can no longer pass sufficient current to heat the oven past 250 degrees

While baking in my Hotpoint electric stove I pressed the oven light button to check on the biscuits and a code of F2 came up. What doe this mean?

this code usually means that the oven temperature is too high.

Is the oven working ok? Does the temperature seem to be correct? Did the code go away? If not,you can try shutting the breaker off to the range for a while and see if it resets. if not make sure that your oven is not getting too hot.

you could have a bad temperature sensor or possibly a bad control panel.

BAKE Control senses oven temperature above 615F-630F If actual over temperature condition occurred: Look for welded relay contacts on bake or broil relays. If this happens, replace oven control (also called clock or ERC).

If no over temperature condition occurred: Look for a high resistance connection or any other cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Check sensor, sensor harness and sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if found defective.

Remember: Oven control (ERC) measures resistance of sensor circuit, not actual oven temperature. F2
