Most cameras have a number displayed that tells you how many shots you have left.
If you make a note of how many that size of memory card gives you, you can subtract the number displayed, and this will tell you how many you have taken. I believe in lots of memory cards, of the biggest size that the camera will recognize - like a 2gb card in my Nikon P7100 shows 334 which is enough for any one day's shooting ( and I know that there are maybe 6 shots on the card).
you can also press the view picures button (like a right arrow) and come down till you get a set pf thumbnails (press the zoom lever to wide angle) and count the shots.

Why won't the menu button won't work and i also cannot delete photos individually

Make sure there isn't a button lock feature on your camera to protect against accidentally changing a setting.

If you cannot delete photos individually you may have the image protection feature enabled.

I have changed the settings somehow on my camera and don't know how to get it back to it's original setting, the quality of my photo's seem quite ***** like and very bright.. anyone know how to change it...

Hi,

Press the MENU button to bring up the Record mode Menu. You can use this shortcut menu to quickly change image resolution, reset all settings to factor defaults, enter Panorama mode, enable Picture+Sounds, enable Silent mode, change the scene mode (when set to the SCN position on the mode dial) as well as enter the Setup menu.

Hope this helps.

Date display in photos in IXUS40

here is the solution:
The date and time can be included on the pictures taken only with the camera in postcard mode. You must also activate the date stamp option in the menu.
To set the camera into postcard mode, press the [Func.] button on the camera, then use the [arrow down] key to go down to the last option in the menu, and there you can choose the [Postcard mode]. Press [Func.] again to exit the function menu.

To set the date and time stamp, press the [Menu] button and then use the [arrow down] button to go to the [Date stamp] option in the menu. You can set this to "Date" or "Date & Time". Press the [Menu] button again to exit the menu.

LCD display isn't on

In order to turn on Live View, first put the camera in one of the Creative Zone modes (i.e. P, Tv, Av, M or A-DEP). Then press the menu button, and scroll to the second settings menu (the second wrench-symbol), then scroll down to "Live View function settings" and press the SET-button. Then scroll to "Live view shoot", press SET, scroll to "Enable", and press set again. Close the menu by pressing the menu button twice.
Now you can turn on and off the live view on the LCD by pressing the SET-button.
