SOURCE: Wireless Adapter
Are you sure that you installed the windows xp drivers and not the vista drivers? There may be no xp drivers for your laptop, and if thats the case, you'll have to switch back to vista. Make sure you know 100% that its the xp drivers.
SOURCE: Wireless Adapter not working under Vista
Yes there is an oblong button. Under XP the button lights up and the wireless adapter works fine. Under Vista the button does not light up and the wireless network does not work. Have tried pressing the button but nothing. The wireless adapter is present and according to device manager is working however when I try to activate a windows help box pops up and tells me I need to turn on the wireless adapter by pressing the button on the front of the computer. Doesn't work whatever I try but it works fine under XP

At the top of your key board right below the power button, there is a row of hotkeys the far left one is the wireless button.
SOURCE: Wireless stopped working on my HP Compaq Presario laptop v6000
Hi there!
There should be another adapter available. The two you mentioned are not your primary wireless connection.
The device will usually have 802.11g/a/b or something similar in it's name. It might also say Intel PRO/Wireless.
I assume you are uninstalling it because it is malfunctioning. The task you are performing can sometimes fix whatever the problem might be, but in the case that it doesn't, I would recommend downloading the most recent driver for the wireless adapter
Driver for XP - 32 bit
Driver for Vista - 32 bit
I hope this helps! Feel free to reply if you need anymore information or if you have questions.
