It sounds like the internal battery is faulty. Have you tested the time the light will stay on at low setting against what the advertising says 66 hours? The Cree Light module has a current sensor in it and will cut off when there isn't enough current.

The all have a removeable tail cap, or a removable lens unit or both. Yours has a removable lens unit. Face the lens to your face and unscrew anticlockwise.
The MXL-T6 designation refers to the Cree LED Module. The battery is normally a 18650 Lithium Ion rechargeable battery.
