You need to explain in what way is it not working? Will it not turn on, does the computer not detect it, ect. Also how did you access it originally?

Hello there:
you may want to unplug the device for 3 min and hold in the power button or the reset button for 30 seconds and than power the device back up and see if this helps If not go to control panel and click on system and look for the device manager and see if it is listed there if it is click on the device and where it says remove say yes than click yes again than shut down and restart the computer and the found new hardware will start up and reinstall the device again for you. ok? please keep me informed how this is going,
best regards mike

Hi. My computer says I ejected my WD My Passport external drive but it was not properly ejected. How can I fix this. I need all my thesis files but computer can read the external drive! Help please!

Try to test your WD Ext HDD to a different computer and check if you will get the same problem.

If the same problem persist try to use a different cable for your WD Ext HDD.

If still fails kindly ask the store where you bought the WD Ext HDD on how to retrieve your files and have WD EXT HDD replaced?

If your WD Ext HDD works to a different computer then update the BIOS and Chipset of the computer where your WD Ext HDD connected previously.

Hope this helps.

Seagate 250GB FreeAgent USB 2.0 Ext Hard Drive with laptop

Whether your computer is a laptop or desktop does not inherently decide if the drive will work or not. If it can't see the connection, there must be another problem with the drive. I would suggest reporting what you have done to try and make it work and anything you notice out of the ordinary (how lights on the drive are acting, noises the drive is making, alerts you see when you plug it into your laptop, etc). That will allow us to better help you find a solution to the problem.

WD portable 250 gb drive w/20 gigs of pictures

Is it truly broken or just not working, ie, not being recognized?

If it is broken, there are companies who specialize in data recovery.

One site is:

I've never used such a service, but they will give you a free quote.

Backup hard drive to an external hard drive

"what the error actually says is, you have either run out of space, or the backup file (.bkf) is too large for this disk. note: if the disk is formatted with FAT32, the maximum possible size for the backup file is limited to 4 gigs."

That error means that the FAT32 file system only allows 4GB files or smaller to be transfered. The chance that the backup file (.bkf) is larger than 4GB suggests that this file is causing your problems. You could try manually copying around that file (selecting all files from that folder except the large one) and see if that works.

Usually you will get many errors copying a drive directly as system files will be inaccessible and whatnot. Your best bet is to limit your copying to "C:\Program Files\" and "C:\Documents and Settings\", assuming you have Windows.
