I have a HT-X40 Samsung home theater that worked fine until yesterday. It's been used very little to this point but now it won't turn on. I was watching a DVD yesterday morning then hit the stop button on the remote twice with plans of restarting it later. When I returned, the unit was off so I pushed the power button to restart it. The light around the button lights, I get a scrolling message that says "DVD/CD Loading Protection", and then the power light goes off and it immediately goes into "standby mode". The same thing happens when the eject button is pushed. The fan is free to turn and is clean. I have tried resetting the unit with the "stop" button. I have also let it cool down, all to no avail. Again, this unit hasn't been used much at all and certainly hasn't been abused in any way. Can you help?

The DVD wasn't stuck however it would not eject because when I tried to turn the unit on, I would get the error message and then it would shut off right away. Pushing other buttons does nothing during the few secounds that it takes to display the error message and then shut off. To get the DVD that was in the unit out I removed the cover and the DVD playing portion. Then I was able to lower the spool that raises up and spins the disc just enough for the DVD to slide out. Then I reinstalled this portion of the machine. For what it's worth, I unplugged the unit overnight but this morning I still had the original problem. Thanks

I would say the DVD was stuck in the unit. Try pulling on the drawer whilst hitting eject. Also try pushing on it doing the same thing. Keep on trying to play it also, sometimes the control system and the mechanics get out of synch and need a little bit of help. But first thing - have you tried disconnecting the power completely (at the chord) and leaving it for about 10 minutes? Always a good first thing to try.

Power goes off

Try resetting the unit.
Make sure there is no disc in the unit. With the unit on, go to the front panel and look for the STOP (square) button.
Hold it down until the unit shuts off by itself. Turn it back on it shoudl work fine.

Power failure

If you are not seeing the power light, than that can mean two things:
1. The fuse inside has burn out. (should be glass tube fuse)
or
2: the power supply is shot and will need to be replaced.
