Which microwave model do you have? Most of the Whirlpool microwaves that I know only have a 12-hour clock. They do not indicate AM or PM. To set the ones that I know, press Clock. Type in the current time in a 12-hour format. Press Clock again. The only model that I find quickly that has an AM/PM option is the GH7208XR. On that model, start with the main menu displayed on the LCD screen. Touch Settings and Info. Next press Clock. Then press Adjust Time. Follow the instructions to set the time and the AM/PM setting. I'll assume you use the +/- buttons. To hide the clock, get to the Clock Screen. Press Adjust Time and Hide Clock to return to the main menu. See these two pages of the manual for this model: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/190817/Whirlpool-Gh7208xr.html?page=9#manual and https://www.manualslib.com/manual/190817/Whirlpool-Gh7208xr.html?page=12#manual

Current Whirlpool over-the-range models sold in the US are listed here: https://www.whirlpool.com/kitchen/cooking/microwaves/over-the-range.html . Other Whirlpool appliance manuals are available from the Owner Support page: https://www.whirlpool.com/services/manuals.html.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the model number for a more accurate information on setting the clock. The model number should be inside the microwave on the rim. Usually it's on the bottom of the door frame near the door hinge.

My Hamilton Beach microwave goes to military time after a certain period of time, no matter what I do with the settings

12h time vs 24 hour time, after 12:00 PM time then goes to 13:00 = 1:00 PM

Take the big number and -12 to it

15:00 —-> 15 - 12 = 3:00 PM
22:00 —>. 22-12 = 10 PM

A time was set on the oven and it is the wrong time. i would like to change it.

Good afternoon Penny.

The manual for this microwave can be obtained/viewed here ( and have tips for all those other things like changing the scroll speed of the display )
http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40536-1.pdf

If you go to to Page 24, the time set is a fairly common one:
  1. Press [Clock]
  2. Enter Time of Day with numeric keypad
  3. Press the [AM/PM/Scroll Speed] Button under the Zero key.
  4. Push [Clock] or [Start] to finish and set the time.
Cheers - hope this helps.

  1. Press the [Settings] button 2 times.
  2. Enter the Appropriate time of day
  3. press [Settings] to indicate AM or PM
  4. Press [Settings] to accept the time.
You can find both the owners and the install manual here (

Setting the setting the clock

Colin,
Most of the time, you hit clock, then on the keypad, punch in the time of day and then either hit clock again or hit the start button. Some models may ask you for AM or PM but it will scroll a message if it is going to ask that & will tell you what button to push. Hope this helps!

How to reset the clock

On most microwaves you simply press (Clock) then push in the time with the number pad, then you press start button.
This is how most will set, some models will also have am/pm options.

If all else fails then get the model number of your microwave and make/Brand and go to the manufactures website, for instance if its whirlpool type in www.whirlpool.com and go to the section for manuals and it usually will ask you for your model number.

Good Luck!
