My admiral fridge freezer suddenly stopped working -

Admiral Fridge Freezer (side by side)
GC2224GEKB SERIAL 11243032JG The repair man discovered it would only work when the fridge door was open so said we needed a new control board. He isolated the door light switch and the fridge and freezer both work now. We sent for a new board (Maytag board control 67006740) but once fitted, it won't accept the program code. There is a little sticker on the original board "Jazz 13" but the replacement board has "Jazz 14" on it. is it the wrong board or is the problem elsewhere - anyone any ideas please??
I also have the problem with the fridge freezing over and Maytag told me just to blow a hairdrier on the cold air inlet from the freezer. It was only a month old the first time it did this and has done it again several times. Can't leave anything in the fridge when we go on hols for fear of it all freezing up! It's out of warranty now and maytag want a fortune just to come out and look!

Thanks For the reply Dr - this is what we did

Hold fridge doorlight switch down and push freezer control(-) down 3 times consecutively

Release door switch - display shows P;E

Press freezer down once more to confirm

        Display shows 0:0

Press freezer & fridge (+) keys to show code (2:8) All OK to here

Once correct code shown press freezer down (-) key until code begins flashing to show confirmed - this is where it returns to 0:0 and flashes.

The people we purchased the board from have also confirmed it is the right one but suggested as follows:

"Have you checked the evaporator motor for any faults (in the freezer)? The evaporator motor if faulty can damage the board. Have you checked the old board for damage? "

We don't know how to do this but as the Frd/freezer is working OK with the old board as long as the light in the fridge is isolated, can only assume it's ok - how do you tell if the board is damaged - is it obvious?

On the other point re freezing up - would appreciate any info but as we have just paid £80+ for a new board, would like to get that working first if possible.

Thanks again - we will try 25 but it definitely says 28 on the inside of the fridge - worth a try though.

  • Fedupsville Nov 30, 2007

You star!! Looks like code 25 did the trick despite the plate saying code 28 - and all seems to be well. Thank you very much Dr.

Same problem, different fridge (Amana AFB2534DEW). Code was programmed into unit correctly, but fridge won't run. Is there another step after this to get it to start back up?

I took the time to look up your Model # and you do have the right board. Jazz 14 Should just be a revision one higher than your origional. Describe to me exactly what happens when you try to program it. You may be missing one little step. Make sure you are doing every step exactly right. I too can miss one little confirmation stroke and it seems like it wont work. I Can email you the tech sheet for your model. This will show you how to test all the sensors, and the damper to determine why the FF side is getting too cold. I will also help on my end as much as i can

Ok upon further review i see you are doing everything correct and by the control flashing 00 at the last step it is also telling me the board is ok because that is what it is programmed to do if you try to enter the wrong code. I want you to be absolutely sure, the program code is 28.It 25 it shows 25 on my online tech sheet. Not saying that is the right code, just try it and see if it works proper. I think that your fan is ok too since it was freezing everything that definatly means it was working it would be the opposite if it werent. I can email you the tech sheet to put it into diagnostice to test the fan, the thermisters(the temp sensors), damper assy(the part that stops the cold air from coming into the FF when it is cold enough),and the compressor and cond fan

Whoops
The fridge has a refrigerant leak, or the thermostat has failed.
Try replacing the thermostat, if that does not work then you will need to call a technician in to find and repair the refrigerant leak and regass the fridge

Admiral side by side fridge defrosted and no longer cooling

Replace the compressor start relay.
If this does not solve the problem you most likely have a bad compressor.
Your fridge may be under a 5 year compressor warranty.

Admiral side by side

All the cold air from your freezer gets pushed into the fridge with a fan in your freezer section. So your problem is from the fact that this cold air isn't get to your fridge.
- the door that allows this cold air into the fridge, normally in the top left corner of the fridge, is stuck shut and needs replacement.
-the freezer isn't defrosting and restricting the air flow
-the temp controller for the fridge is damaged and thinks that the fridge is cold enough.
