That could be 1 of 2 problems: Either the click wheel has came loose or has jammed, which will be a simple fix if you take it to an ipod repair place and you will only have to pay labor, or your controls on the motherboard have went bad and you may need a new motherboard which cost up to around $60.

It's likely that you have to replacethe clickwheel. It's not permanently on hold is it? If the latter is the case it's your hold switch.
There is a service called ipod repair nyc that can repair it for you can use an iPod nano repair guide that shows you how to replace the screen yourself, the part is on ebay.

Ipod nano 4gb is frozen

To user VIVS919, even though you lost the reciept you can call apple at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) They should replace your iPod under warranty. {Just don't admit to any "accidental" damage}

Frozen iPod Nano

Press and hold the center button while holding down the menu button. This will reboot your Ipod. Check your IPod cable to see if its shorted. If might have transferred a song and crash in the middle of the transfer.

Make sure you have you user's manual. If you don't have it, go to Apple website.

These are for Nano, but they apply to all iPods:

Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore

Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If

one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.

â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below.

â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.

â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates

installed.

â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web.

â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page whatever.

I turned on my Ipod nano and it froze..

Refer to your manual for the details - A simple reset will probably work. Running Mp3 players on low batt can cause all sorts of goofiness.

The screen is blue

The following is the latest update for the nano - CLICK HERE

If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, connect your iPod to your computer, then press and hold the "Menu" and "Select" buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds to reset the iPod. Resetting an iPod will not affect your files or preferences.

Hope this helps!
