After the bolts are removed should just be a straight and proper yanking off.

SOURCE: Loosing tranny oil between crankcase and bell

Assuming that it is tranny fluid, and not engine oil, there is only one seal, and your torque converter goes into it. Anyway, what you're in for is pulling the tranny, no matter what. Then it's pretty simple to pull the torque converter out, and change the seal. You want to make sure it's done right, though. That's an expensive transmission.

check for a lockout lever or switch that requires the operator to be in the drivers seat and the feet on the correct rests.

Do the starter have to be removed to replace the transmission

The starter is mounted to the transmission bell housing and comes off with the transmission. I'd say yes, it has to be removed to separate the transmission from the engine.

Cracked bell housing

My initial thought is Aluminum can be welded. Depends on cracks relationship to mounting bolts. Check and see if Bell housing is separate from transmission. May be able to swap bell housings and keep transmission.

You may want a good Salvage yard site like Carparts.com. They have a Nationwide link to many Salvagers. One request and you could get 300 responses.

Transmission will not come lose from motor, all bolts and the starter have been removed

Sometimes there is a hidden bolt, check very carefully. If not, sometimes it needs a little convincing. Carefully tap a wedge in between the engine and transmission. Do this equally on both sides to avoid cracking the bell housing or damaging any parts
