The Leica is such a good camera, I would entrust repair to a local Leica service centre, despite it being a point and shoot. Someone is selling one on eBay for $500! Did you try replacing the batteries? Leica Parts right down at the bottom.

i read the manual, and they recommend bringing it to a service center, after turning it on and off. Sometimes sand gets stuck in the lens, or sometimes the internal button cell battery goes dead which would disable the zoom. If you feel confident in your component abilities, crack it open and replace that battery.

1. please go to this page and download the manual in the language you desire. once you have opened the pdf file you can print it out if needed or save it to your pc for future use.
