SOURCE: I keep getting "Battery Exhausted" messages, with new batteries

you have to use only very good quality batteries ...I have a philips..and if I do not put alcaline quality bateries in it ..it do not even power up ....and even with this expensive ones it eats 'em like snacks...
by the way ...keep the batteries inside only when you shoot cause all this new cameras with display and so ...consumes the batteries even when they are powered off ..
my advise is to buy some accumulators the kind you charge on the home power plug.....so in this way .. you will always have strong power into them ..and the cost its worthily ..

SOURCE: I have a Nikon coolpix L18 and can only take

It's not defective. Alkaline batteries never last long in digital cameras. Find some good NIMH rechargeable batteries. They should last far longer.

SOURCE: at first i put alkaline batteries in coolpix l100

Did you go in and change the battery type in the camera from alkaline to Ni-MH? This fixed the problem for me. It is on page 111 in the manuel (or menu button to setup menu to battery type).

I received this camera a few years ago as a gift. I used the batteries that came with the camera but when they died I put in new alkaline batteries and ever since the camera has been stuck with a message...

you might have cooked it..... fresh alkaline batteries carry a voltage of about 1.7v.
try turning it on/off multiple times to see if it will clear the fault.

Battery exhasted problem???

It's the way that the camera reads the "energy left" that is the problem. Not all AA batteries are the same. Basically the default setting is (at least in the UK and US versions) set to ALKALINE AA batteries. If you are getting the "battery exhausted" message after putting new AAs in, chances are your batteries are not ALKALINE. You can either buy some new AA Alkaline specific batteries (eg: Duracell make them and they say specifically alkaline on the side). Or you can try to keep power on long enough to press MENU, then go to the "spanner" tab, then select "Battery Type", and select either Lithium AA if that is what you are using, or NI-MH versions. Stupide NIKON don't tell you this anywhere, and I have already chucked one of their products because of it, when actually it was fine. (Jake, Newcastle, United Kingdom, December 2012).

I've only had my Nikkon CoolPix for a month with only 100 pictures and keep getting the battery exhausted. I keep changing the batteries, but I keep getting the same message. Helo!

The Nikon CoolPix 3200 has an unusual battery selection AND also needs the type of battery being used to be selected in the set up menu. The default is Alkaline, if you are not using Alkaline this function may be part of your rapid discharge. What I would suggest is to switch to a "good" set of Ni-MH batteries, generally these can be bought as a set/kit with a charger. If you have a manual what I'm referring to is on pages 18 and 19. For changing the setting for battery type can be found on page 96. The battery choices for this camera can be confusing to anyone. Happy Holidays from Robert in Canada

Nikon L100 shows battery exhausted error message after installing new batteries. Unable to perform any operations on camera

That's the bug in Nokin L100, update the firmware version from 1.0 to 1.1, this will solve the battery exhaust problem. Firmware version 1.0 has only 2 battery (Alkaline and Lethium) option where as Firmware version 1.1 has Nickle battery also. But, to update the firmware you need to have EH-67 AC Adapter to give power to the camera.

I have a Nikon coolpix L18 and can only take around 10 pics wiht it, with alkaline aa batteries, before I get the message "batteries exhausted". What can I do? Is the camer defective?

Well, alkaline batteries don't last long in a power-draining camera like the Coolpix. Try some rechargeables and keep spares fully charged.

Camera showing battery exhausted with new batteries

There are three battery type settings in the set up menu: Alkaline, COOLPiX(NiMH) and Lithium. Might be worth looking at. To be continued.
