Kitchenaid 600 pro

After many years dealing with Kitchen Aid mixers I purchased a pro 600 for my wife as an early Xmas gift. After just a few usages it started making a clunking noise in the gear housing. I removed the housing and discovered the casting is of very poor tolerances and the main drive assembly was lifting from the torque of the motor and causing the gear assembly to lift out of the casting and skipping on the worm gear. I am sure it is going to happen to many more of these units as the casting area that holds the bearing in is to large obviously an overdue mold in the casting process. Time for a recall Kitchen Aid.

325 k5ss mixer stir speed not working, but works in all other gears

First congrats on the great mixer that you have. next the pro 6 or professional 600 series mixers are of an entirely different design than the one that you have even though they are both bowl lift. Do you really need 6 quarts capacity? The pro series is a 575 watt mixer BTW, and it will have more power available to you IF you are doing bread or a lot of food grinding, if that is a requirement that you have then the 6 / 600 series is the better suited mixer but if all you are doing is general medium to light mixing duties then fix and keep the K5SS it a great machine,

Kitchenaid mixer motor makes loud grinding, squeaking noise.

lgardash, Are you sure it's the motor or could it be the transmission?
It 'sounds' like you've got some transmission gear issues, and a situation similar to my wife's mixer, which we got new in Dec 2006. (Within a week of her first using it, she contacted KA Customer Care and the only 'care' they offered was an explanation that the new KA Pro Mixer gears are all metal and to expect it to be louder than previous models that used a plastic gear (to fail). Well, there's an acceptable level of noise, and an unacceptable level (you don't need to be a mechanical engineer to know when something doesn't sound right) and it seems that my wife's new mixer's operating noise level was always unacceptable. It finally 'died' this past October.) OK I've vented enough on KA... now what might be your problem(s)?
It could be as simple as thorough normal use the gears have shifted slightly in the transmission and the gear teeth are making different contact, hence the grinding/squeaky noise. The higher the speed, the louder, higher pitched sound you'll get. Alas, the noise may also be indicative of a potential gear failure (after our mixers increasing noisiness, the bevel gear broke and the mixer 'froze').
If your mixer is under warranty, contact Kitchenaid. If it's out of warranty, then take it apart and do a diagnostic exam of the gearing. Whatever you find you should be able to fix yourself. Be sure to have the Kitchenaid Part Manual (Part No. 8212278 Rev D) on hand if you attempt to disassemble yourself. It also lists all the parts so that you can determine, which parts, if any have failed. You'd think that the Kitchenaid name would warranty their mixers for a lifetime... So much for quality in America today!
I hope this helps, and good luck! - Howard, Burke, VA

Kitchenaid pro 600

It sounds like you may have broken the gear in the head of the mixer. I would call this a Advanced fix since you need to press the pin out of the shaft to put the new gear on. The parts are available from online parts stores, and the manuals and part lists are available from KitchenAid HERE.
