The 2 Taylor factories, in El Cajon CA, and in Tecate Mex., are quite close, and before 2008 it seems that pieces of the one guitar were made in both places.

Yours was made in May 2006, and that is the most likely scenario for it. Mexican made Taylors are apparently considered to be just as good as US made Taylors.

I have seen it reported that from 2008, more production was done in Tecate, and a guitar made there completely should have 'Made in Mexico' visible somewhere on it or deep inside.

Looking to buy my first acoustic electric guitar, I'm looking at a Martin gpcpa-1 plus with vts or a Taylor 814ce DLX grand auditorium, which is the better guitar

David, you have excellent taste! Both guitars are excellent: Martin has had a reputation as a premier guitar line since 1833- almost 200 years! The Taylor guitar company started in 1974, and is currently (according to Wikipedia, quoting a USA Today article) the #1 guitar maker in America.

I can see why the choice is difficult- they are both Rosewood guitars with Sitka spruce top on a cutaway body, and they are both incredible players.

The Taylor is a little more expensive at $3,999 than the Martin $3,399.

It will come down to which you like better and what kind of music you play- if you record, ask a professional sound engineer which will sound better for your particular style. I happen to like the Taylor neck, but that's mostly because I play a 12- but I cannot see how you would be disappointed with either of these fine instruments.

Guitar taylor 314

string like you would a right hand guitar for a right hand player so when you face a right handed player, it appears to both of you that you are sort of looking in a mirror. It makes it easier to learn that way too.

Automatic batery charger

What does a battery charger have to do with a guitar? I hope you are NOT using rechargeable batteries in your guitar. They have very limited life in a guitar since they start out at a much lower voltage.

IF YOUR GUITAR has a built in tuner, make sure the tuner is off as it disables output while tuning... The other thing is to check if you have a volume control on the guitar that might be set too low.. Make sure if you are using 1/4 inch plug guitar cable that it is NOT a TRS balanced cable, as that will turn off the power in the guitar.

If you just bought the guitar, take it back. Taylor has good warranty programs, take it back to the dealer. You may have a bad connection inside where the saddle pick up plugs into the graphic preamp, the fact that you hear a sound when you put the battery in or out indicates very little. You may have a bad preamp, like I said, if its new, don't wait get it back to the dealer or contact Taylor.
