Mic stop working

If you are trying to chat with yahoo messenger, please select internal/default mic in call setup assistant.

Its an mic problem once check with voice recorder. Record a sound and playback if no sound surely its a mic problem

Click on start->control panel->sounds and audio devices->audio tab->under sound recording click on volume tab and uncheck mute all and anyother mute.

I have a Dell 1545 with Dell web cam central & I've had this issue. The problem is that Dell web cam central installs it's own microphone settings onto your laptop called something like Dell web cam Live!. This isn't the built in microphone in my laptop & maybe not yours either. You have to change the settings for your computer system & Dell web cam central. Go to start> control panel> sound> recording .. on mine there is an option for Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" ... that is the built in mic. You want that for your default & apply it. Also .. as a side note .. I disabled the web cam central Live! microphone completely from this window. Then open Dell web cam central & go to the "Record Video's" option. In the middle of this is an orange button with a video camera icon. Next to this on the same button is a little arrow pointing down .. click that. Under microphone .. choose Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" just like the sound option in control panel. I've done this & it's completely fixed. I can record videos with sound & use my built in mic in voice/video chat.

Good day, sir/ma'am , there are several reasons why a mic does not work, let me give some. 1. its not activated, to check if it is activated, load the sound recorder program on windows. press record and shout on the mic, wave patterns can be seen on the recorder. 2. you may activate the mic and speaker if you cant hear the voices by. opening the volume control settings, options, properties, place a check on mic volume. there are other optons as well. 3. the mic is physically damage due to open wiring. get a new one. hope this may help. thanks

This could be a problem because of the sound drivers you are using.You have to have a Win Vista operating system for the correct drivers then i m sure the mic internal and external should work.

A few reasons for not being able to talk through the mic is that if parental settings are set. Parental settings can stop you from talking and, if set right, can stop you from hearing other people, which isn't the problem. It could also be that the mic on the headset is broken. If it is, you will have to buy a new one. Try using someone else's headset. If theirs works, then it confirms that it is only your headset. If it doesn't, it might mean that either your Xbox 360 remote isn't working right for voice, or parental settings are restricting you from that action.

There is a specific download for this. Your best bet is contacting Yahoo and asking them where to find it.

Troubleshooting - Can't get voice chat to work.
Here are a few things you should know and check for to get the voice chat to work. · Firewalls - the voice chat feature may not work well behind company firewalls. Even though you can get other features of Yahoo! Messenger to work, the voice chat feature uses separate technology and may not work as well.
· Check connection - When you enter into a voice chat with friends, each participant should take turns trying to press and hold down the Press to Talk button. Everyone else should see their name turn red when they do that. If you see their names turn red, but don't hear anything, it may be a microphone / speaker problem, or it may be that we have more bugs that we need to fix. If you don't see their name turn red, you are probably having connection problems and that's why it's not working.
· Get the latest version - Please make sure that everyone who is using the voice chat feature has the latest version.
· Check mic and speakers - Check that your microphone works and that your speakers are turned on. Here's how:
* make sure the mic is plugged in correctly.
* adjust the mic properties.
- go to the control panel (start button -- settings -- control panel)
- click on the multimedia icon
- you should see a tab for audio
- make sure that the recording volume is set high.
* you can test your mic. by doing the following.
- Click the Windows Start button, then go to Programs, then Accessories, then Multimedia, then click on Sound Recorder
- A new window called Sound Recorder will pop up. Click on the record button (a red circle), then say a few words, then click the stop button (black square).
- Click the play button (black triangle).
If you can hear yourself fine, then your microphone is okay. If you can't hear your voice using Sound Recorder, the voice chat should not work either.
